Free Basic Music Composing Software

Hi.. I'm quite new in the 'composing world' so can anyone tell me where I can download a free basic music composing software? It just needs to be able to write a solo piano piece, save, and play it...Please, anyone?

Wow...I didn't realize it was no longer free. LAME. Perhaps someone has the installer for Notepad 2008 they would share.

You could try NoteWorthy Composer. The playback is terrible, you can't print out any music, and you only get 10 saves, but... what can you expect for a free software? If you have $600, you could buy Sibelius... but, who has $600?

P.S. You could use Finale Notepad, although it only allows a few parts (like, 10 or so), so if you intend to compose for large ensembles, try somewhere else.

how can they get off selling finale notepad? its junk. give me a break.

Thanks everyone... But I still can't find one with the correct requirements... Most of the software can only be downloaded free as a demo version... *sigh*

If you're going to borrow an installer of NotePad, Might as well get a torent of the full Finale 09 Version.....its the same thing.

You're not paying for either one, and you're supposed to.
I believe its only one computer for Finale Notepad, so either way it would be a trail
