There are two categories: one for candidates under 30 years of age (born after 31 March 1997), with works lasting 6 to 8 minutes, and one for candidates aged 30 and over (born before 31 March 1997), with works lasting 8 to 10 minutes.

The selection process will take place in three rounds. The first round requires a sketch of the score (with audio recording); the second round requires a complete score (with audio recording); and in the final round, the selected scores will be performed by a European youth symphony orchestra.

Prizes totalling €20,500. Seven prizes will be awarded: in each category, three prizes (€5,000, €3,000 and €2,000). In addition, an Audience Award (“Coup de cœur”) of €500, common to both categories, will be given.

The registration fee is €50.

General criteria of the contest:

1) Only compositions for voice and piano are accepted for this competition. Any composition that does not meet this criterion will be disqualified by the jury.

2) All composers regardless of age or nationality can participate in the competition.

3) The works must not be previously published, performed, nor recorded (CD, Video) and must not be available online in any form (audio, video or pdf).

4) The scores and all necessary materials mentioned below must be sent by May 1st, 2026 only online and in PDF format to: georgestephanescucompetition@gmail.com

5) The name, surname and category of participation must be clearly written on the first page of the score. The following must be sent along with the score:

– assigning the copyright to the association for the subsequent publication of the composition.
– the author must agree that, if they are declared winner of the competition, the following must be included in all future public appearances of the composition (scores, posters, quotes): “The work won the Sixth Edition of the George Ștephănescu International Composition Competition”. If it’s not specified it can disqualify the work retroactively and may result in the return of the prize.
– the author agrees with the fact that for the awarded works the first audition will take place only at the “International Composition Competition George Ștephănescu – Sixth Edition”.

6) The jury will be composed of 3 distinguished members of international renown from Romania and Albania.

The composer of the work being awarded the first prize will receive a cash award of 800 Euros. The composition will be published by a music publishing house in Bucharest and will receive its world premiere at a recital organized in 2026.
The composer of the work being awarded the second prize will receive a cash award of 400 Euros. The composition will be published by a music publishing house in Bucharest and will receive its world premiere at a recital organized in 2026.

Section B)
The composer of the work being awarded the first prize will receive a cash award of 800 Euros. The composition will be published by a music publishing house in Bucharest and will receive its world premiere at a recital organized in 2026.
The composer of the work being awarded the second prize will receive a cash award of 400 Euros. The composition will be published by a music publishing house in Bucharest and will receive its world premiere at a recital organized in 2026.

* In order to be published, all the awarded works must be submitted in Finale format.

8) Composers are only allowed to submit a single composition for this competition. If several works are sent from the same composer, none will be considered.

9) The jury has the right to award additional prizes or diplomas for other works considered valuable. The jury also reserves the right to not to award a prize, as deemed appropriate.

10) The decisions of the jury are final and cannot be contested.

Distinct from many film music competitions, the MSCN International Film Music Prize is defined by its demanding structure and comprehensive evaluation process. For its first edition, composers are invited to create an original score for an exclusive sequence from The End of The Neubacher Project (2006), directed by Marcus J. Carney. The selected film material places particular emphasis on placement, restraint, emotional intelligence, and the meaningful use of silence and space, challenging participants to demonstrate control, sensitivity, and dramaturgical awareness. The jury will evaluate submissions with close attention to dramaturgical timing and cue placement, emotional restraint, the expressive use of silence, spatial awareness within the film, musical clarity and narrative cohesion, and the overall professional quality of the score’s technical execution.

The MSCN International Film Music Prize welcomes submissions from emerging and early-career composers worldwide. The competition is open to all applicants regardless of age, experience, gender, education, or geographic location. MSCN actively encourages participation from individuals belonging to underrepresented groups. Applicants must submit a completed score for the competition film sequence, including a video file of the fully scored film with synchronized audio and a standard professional cue sheet. All valid submissions will be reviewed by the film’s director together with an international jury of professional composers, educators, and industry professionals.

The prize recognises outstanding work through one Gold MSCN Award and two Silver MSCN Awards. The Gold Award includes a professional orchestral recording of selected cues with the Budapest Pannonia Film Music Orchestra at Pannonia Studios (valued at €1,300), mentoring during the preparation and recording process, and extensive professional written feedback. Two Silver Award recipients receive full scholarships to the MSCN Film Music Festivals Academy (valued at €500 each) together with detailed written feedback from the jury. Early Bird registration is available until 30 April 2026, with a final submission deadline of 16 June 2026. The winners will be officially announced during SoundTrack_Cologne 23 (14–17 July 2026).

General Regulations

Throughout its festival and competition history, Busan Choral has fostered cultural exchange and promoted high quality of choral music by attracting notable artists, conductors, and composers to one of Asia’s top choral festivals. The Busan Choral Composition Competition seeks to engage with aspiring young composers and to encourage the creation and performance of new works written for the choral music genre. The 1st winning work will be premiered at the 2026 Busan Choral Festival & Competition during the week of October 22- October 25th, 2026.

Eligibility

1) Composer must be born between MAY 31, 2006 and MAY 31, 1986.

(exceptions may be considered under the BCFC committee's review.)

2) Compositions must not have been previously published or awarded in previous composition competitions and never publicly performed.

1) 3-10 minutes in duration

2) Piece must be for unaccompanied, equal or mixed voices choir.

The Competition is open to composers in five age categories:
• Elementary (age 5 – 10)

The following composition requirements must be met or the application may be disqualified.
• A composition must have a title.
• A composition may be in any style and should be originally written for a piano or a piano in ensemble with up to four other instruments or/and voice(s) as long as piano would be the leading, not just an accompanying, instrument. Compositions for prepared piano are not permitted.
• The performance time of the composition must be no longer than seven minutes. For the composition which is longer than seven but less than fifteen minutes double application fee is required. We do not accept the composition which is longer than fifteen minutes in performing time.
• The composition manuscript must be a fully realized score. We do not accept composition which requires improvising performing style.
• The manuscript should be submitted electronically in PDF format.
• No change may be made to the manuscript once it has been submitted.
• A composition that includes copyrighted text must be accompanied by a written statement from the copyright holder giving permission to use the text. If the text is in the public domain, a statement signed by the teacher and student indicating this fact must accompany the entry.

Today more than ever, communities around the world are experiencing deep uncertainty and fear. Whether we are experiencing the denial or erasure of basic rights once considered unalienable, or watching helplessly as violence and conflict spawns death and destruction, we are finding it harder and harder to believe in the ideals and ideas that we once cherished—and we are more and more desperate for bright spots to cling to in the midst of confusion and fear. 

This theme explores faith in the traditional sense. But it also explores different kinds of human belief and faith—faith in love, faith in nationalism, faith in the strength of the human spirit. And it explores how music has helped communities weather storms of varying magnitudes—how humans have used music to express their grief and fear when their faith is shaken, and also to remind us all to keep the faith, even when it feels impossible. 

All U.S. & Canadian residents aged 18-40 are welcome to submit a 2-5 minute original composition (arranged for mixed, unaccompanied choir) related to this theme, and we especially welcome submissions from unique or underrepresented perspectives – and in unique or underrepresented styles. Budding composers are invited to take part in this unique competition

Gloucester Cathedral in the UK has been 'home' to many renowned musicians over the centuries, including Dr John Sanders who was Director of Music there between 1967-1994. His composition 'The Reproaches', is widely regarded as one of the 20th century's most evocative pieces of church music and is regularly performed by choirs around the world. 

Following John Sanders’s death in 2003, The Sanders Society was formed  and since then - corresponding with the renowned Three Choirs Festival in Gloucester - organises a successful and prestigious competition for young composers, drawing entries from all over the world.

 There is an £1,000 prize on offer, as well as the prospect of a possible publishing contract, and the opportunity to hear the winning composition performed during the Three Choirs Festival week in the matchless acoustic of Gloucester Cathedral by three of the UK's finest cathedral choirs .

Sitka Lutheran Church in Sitka, Alaska is enthused to invite young composers to submit organ works for a composition competition!  This fall, Sitka Lutheran Church is celebrating the 30 year anniversary of its volunteer program.  This program spreads faith, history, and love to Sitka visitors.  As part of this celebration, a concert will be performed on its 1844 Kessler pipe organ, which is the oldest organ west of the Mississippi River.  The winning composition will be premiered at this concert.

Competition Eligibility and Guidelines

·         Open to students studying at American high schools, colleges, and universities.

·         Compositions must be 7-10 minutes in length and suitable for Sitka Lutheran’s 1844 Kessler organ.

·         Submissions must incorporate the melody Finlandia, by Jean Sibelius.

·         Composers are encouraged NOT to submit works in a theme and variations form.

·         Submissions must not require a pedalboard or more than 1 manual.

·         Submissions must be entirely original and not previously performed.

·         There is no application fee.

Call for Submissions: 2025 Fort Collins Symphony 

Composition Competition

The Fort Collins Symphony (FCS) is holding a competition to compose a concert opener of approximately 5-8 minutes in duration to be premiered during our 102nd season on Signature Concert #3 (tentatively scheduled for February 7, 2026). This competition seeks to honor the 250th anniversary of the birth of the United States while showcasing the creativity and talent of young Colorado-based composers.

The winning composer will receive:

• A $1,000 honorarium

• An archival recording of the performance by the Fort Collins Symphony

Eligibility Criteria:
To enter, applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be studying in the state of Colorado or have graduated from a Colorado high school

• Be under the age of 30 as of February 1, 2026

• Have not yet achieved a Master’s Degree from a university

Submission Requirements:

1. The composition must be a fanfare or overture of 5-8 minutes in duration.

2. The work may have been composed previously but must not have been performed publicly.

3. The composition should be scored for a large orchestra, including:

   • 3 Flutes

   • 3 Oboes

   • 3 Clarinets

   • 3 Bassoons

   • 4 Horns

   • 3 Trumpets

   • 3 Trombones

   • 1 Tuba

   • Timpani, 3 Percussionists, Harp, Keyboard

   • Strings (Violin 1, Violin 2, Viola, Cello, and Bass)

For the 6th time, the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of Piano in Music Education at the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna is inviting to the Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition. In the previous five editions, young composers from over 65 countries submitted around 960 compositions.
Since its first edition in 2010, the competition has been committed to promoting contemporary piano literature for children and young people. The task is to write a piano work in a contemporary tonal language that is easily realizable for piano lessons and thus provides young players with adequate artistic access to the music of the present.
The Mauricio Kagel Composition Competition is distinguished by its particularly transparent and fair selection process. From the multitude of submissions, a selection of anonymized pieces will be presented in a multi-day judging process by students from the Ludwig van Beethoven Department of the mdw and will be publicly discussed by a renowned, international jury. The upcoming edition gladly welcomes Michael Jarrell, Elena Mendoza, Isabel Mundry, Miroslav Srnka and Marco Stroppa as jury members.
The competition prizes are €6,500, €4,500 and €3,500. The award-winning pieces will be published in cooperation with Universal Edition. Audio recordings of these works will also be published on the mdw media library.
Composers up to the age of 40 are invited to submit pieces digitally. The deadline for submissions is 20 September 2024. The performances, the public judging process and the decision will take place from 4-7 February 2025 in English in the Fanny Hensel Hall of the mdw and online via live stream.

For immediate release: Toronto, Canada, August 1, 2023—The thirteenth annual Musicworks Electronic Music Composition Contest opens August 1, 2023. We invite you to share the with your readers, audiences, and communities.

Our annual juried contest spotlights new musical talent from around the world, offering cash prizes and opportunities to be heard and published. In 2022, we received 179 submissions from across North America, as well as from Brazil, Greece, Ukraine, and many more places.

First prize: C$500, a composer profile in Musicworks in 2024, and the composition released on the accompanying Musicworks CD.
Second prize: C$200 and composer coverage on musicworks.ca in 2024.
Third prize: C$100 and composer coverage on musicworks.ca in 2024.

Marcelle Deschênes Prize in Electronic Music / prix Marcelle Deschênes pour la musique électronique: C$300 and a composer profile in 2024. This prize is open to entrants who self-identify as female or non-binary.

Compose and submit an experimental piece in any electronic-music genre—acousmatic, electroacoustic, glitch, soundscape, intelligent dance music (IDM), turntable art, or video music. The contest is open to entries from anywhere in the world and from artists at any stage of their careers. Pieces must be previously unpublished (i.e. not released on a commercially available recording at the time of submission).

Maximum length: 10 minutes.
Accepted file types: MP3 or MP4 only.
Contest entry fee: C$30. Unlimited additional entries are C$5 each.
All entrants receive a one-year print subscription to Musicworks ($44–$59 value).
