No, you likely can't use a microphone in the line-in port. The reason for this has to do with the sensitivity of the microphone and the lack of power in most computer line-in ports. What you will need is a preamp or a USB interface. What I'd suggest is for you to get two sm57s and something like this: http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/AudioBoxUSB/. Now I'm not endorsing the product, only the company -- do your own research and find what's right for you. Granted, this plan about doubles your budget, and that's not including cables and mic stands. Things to look for: XLR jacks -- EVERY microphone worth ANYTHING is XLR. Phantom Power -- this lets you use decent condensor mics. Alternative inputs -- Firewire, etc. This only lets you work faster and with less lag. Let me know how your search is coming :)

Yes I've seen many "-1" in your posts, (I've never voted negative for your, actually if I'm going to vote is because I'm going to click positive) I think you have one or several clear enemies with an stupid obsession... I think right now Chopin is very busy to take care of new things on the large list of items must be fixed on YC, but I will propose him (you can PM him too) a profile option to disable the reputation ... because it can be (it is being) used wrongly and just bother members.... I won't tell you who but there's a member (he hasn't show up in months, thank's God) who each time he replays something I said the only thing he does is insult me, and it's being like that since my 1st thread, I never post and answer and I ignore him but I'm sure if he would be here now he would be clicking the -1 on me always... you just can't understand those people ... Meanwhile click +1 on your own post to balance this matter, I think you can vote up to 20 times per day. Also remember you can post kinda hard stuff to members you know well, Chopin, Gardener, maybe Berlioz, Hillary, probably Jen, even myself, BUT members you don't recognize, ... be super kind with them 'cos some people get easily offended. A thought: Can we PLEASE get rid of the stupid "reputation" thing where people vote posts up and down? It's been abused by people that don't like other people (such as BDW consistently voting my posts down). It doesn't help to the site, simple as that.
