  1. I'd say there are more melodies where melody doesn't start in the tonic than when it does, right now I have this song in the other tab, song is in F#m and first note madonna sings is G# (2nd or 9th)... I think when first note is in first tempo of the measure, (strong tempo) is more likely it will be one of the triad makes the perfect chord, tonic, 3rd or 5th, when it starts as anacrusis it might be other, but I don't think there's any kind of rule for this.
  2. No, I'm afraid that is totally confusing, this should work perfectly fine: sometimes the tremolo lines may appear angled like this: It works as sames as a trill but for larger intervals, it also specify the speed in number of dashes like semiquaver demisemiquaver etc.
  3. hello, beautiful concerto, I also played mandolin for years when I was little, I still own two. Very nice performance, keep going. I wonder if you would like to venture into other instruments ? Violin perhaps ?
  4. I agree, in english should good enough, in Italian would be something like "un po stonare" but like you can see this will just make it more confusing because is not a common indication and "out of tune" looks perfectly understanable for any person. "um poco desafinado" will look good :D but also put the english
  5. No man we gotta find a solution for that, you must play at least revolutionary etude :D you own a piano at least ? I'm selling one ugly loudly Yamaha, I send it via FedEx haha
  6. you mean the Danzon ? there are a lot of latin styles, I was talking only about the ones I used, I don't know any Bossa Nova or Salsa orchestral work, but probably someone did it, anyway I wanted to do it and I did it, and it wasn't very easy, anyway Sojar asked what's what we consider our best so far so, I answered...
  7. well I don't have as much as you but... Orchestral The Polyphasetic Colleection Op.20 (is a long long large work for full orchestra) Maseuayotl Op.31 Ecos del Tropico op.33 (this one was an achievement because I could manage to take those latin styles into a symphonic level, never done before I guess) Survivor Op.36 (this one I guess for the speed, I could write this work kinda fast and without very much planing) Electronic: I will hold to the End (when I did this I didn't have fancy libraries so I like very much what I could do then) Conferencia Subacuatica (I could sucessfuly emulate underwater sounds with synths) that is all I guess

  10. it has problems in the high range, must be very hard to control this Catophone
  11. if values are the same single stem is correct, if both play the same note then write "a 2" or "I,II a 2" something like that, If values are different in one measure then next are the same and then other segment different etc, write two voices always and don't use "a 2"
  12. only if rhythm is different that will force you to use 2 voices, if not 1 is enough, if they are playing the same note use "a 2" or "I, II a 2" something like that.
  13. I don't know a single sax player would say can't play alto, so I can say a sax player can play any sax as long as he owns it, with the exception of soprano, someone could have a pro level on sax but has played the alto his entire life, he can't switch to soprano just like that, soprano requires a bunch of extra skills nobody can have unless he really dedicates time to play soprano. Tenor may not have any problem coming from alto, just a bit more breath, Baritone the same just add even more breath. Sax was made to be a woodwind but as loud as brass, it can't be that loud but certainly louder than any woodwind, depending on the tip opening of the mouthpiece but Soprano Sax can sound like 300% of Oboe at fff, mostly with lowest notes B and Bb where the entire tube is used all saxes sound pretty loud in those notes. A soprano player can easily switch to alto since nobody starts with soprano, you always learn alto or tenor first. One of those Tenor fanatics have never even tried the soprano, will never like the total mess of controling the soprano. So you can have like these groups Soprano+Alto (common) Soprano+Alto+Tenor (very possible) Alto+Tenor (common) Alto+Tenor+Bari (not so common) Soprano+Alto+Tenor+Bari (a fanatic only)
  14. in less than a month I'll know if I will be living in a comunist country or not, cool don't you think ? for composing... soon I might be writing my Tocsin

mmmm... many support the comunist guy, but high powers doesn't like him because he will go on chase of them, so they might kill this guy, and you know what that means, ? revolution, and you know what that means ? deaths all over the street, I might be ringing your bell soon, or Chris' , or Tokke's

Well, you might want to get the commie killed, so vote for him just for the sake of getting the high powers into trouble for a while. If things go awry, there's always Costa Rica to escape.

*snorts* "Violas are instruments. Written for this instrument is the nice squiggly clef. You use it because they add prettiness to your score." (Y) :D

  19. just for once, it was an exception, but I never do revisions or do different versions after I take the final call the work is done, I revise over and over while writing, but when I finish, is done, I usually end very satisfied with the work, so I don't need to change anything.

  21. Totally clueless about strings ? well this is the very basic info You may forget that D string E string lines for now, that's the range for the strings instruments, and how is notated, with those clefs, Contrabass sounds 8va lower of what your write, here you can find more: http://www.garritan.com/RK/rk/1.html I think you can begin with that.
  22. wow what is all that ? I don't know if this is relevant... I know is that brain creates certain patterns in the first years of life, according to the first music it heard, the music arrives later gets only compared to the previous patterns, that's why people always says the music they heard as young was better than todays, is a common feeling. :dunno:
  23. I don't play oboe but is about the same issue in Soprano Sax. I'd say D is possible even in ppp, C begins to be powerful but can be controlled, B and Bb are the problematic ones, some players can do some tricks like hiding the Oboe bell with their knees, it decreases the loudness, it also depends on the passage, or the attack. A very soft B or Bb possible requires an embouchure change, so if you write a fast F,E,D,C,B,Bb all in pp, last Bb will be hard to produce with the previous notes there, Oboist will simply do a cresc to make that Bb heard. If the case is that player has all the time to set embouchure or whatever needs to be adjusted, maybe a ppp Bb is possible, even reeds affect, I can control the Bb in SopSax with a harder read, but highest notes are almost impossible, if I use a thin one, I can go high but don't ask me to play the low Bb or it will sound like trombone. just think in B and Bb as non easy pp or ppp, the rest is fine.
