  6. This is a transcription for cello duet of the second movement of a double violin sonata I wrote a long time ago. An acquaintance who is an amateur cellist very kindly recorded both parts for me so this is his performance. One of my very few works to have actually been performed :) . I also attached a Garritan realized version as well.

  9. A brief piece for cello and piano I quickly wrote. It is among the first of the pieces that I've written in such a style, so I'm always looking to improve. Let me know your thoughts, and thanks!
  10. I want to write a very high (natural) harmonic for cello, and I want to check the proper notation here. It's the 8th harmonic, thus 3octaves above the open string. I think thediamondshaped notehas to be a second plus an halve sharp above my open string G. is that right? I tried this on a guitar, since I have no cello at hand, but the 7th harmonic (the false 7th) is also somewhere in between the m3 and the M2, so I dont know how to propperly notate it in quarter tones... For clarity sake an oveview harmonic at perfct fourth is adding 2 octave (1/4th string) at major 3rd is adding 2 octave and a M3 (5th harmonic) at minor 3rd is adding 2 octave and P5 (6th harmonic) at minor 3rd minus something is adding 2oct and a false 7th (7th harmonic) at Major 2nd plus something is adding 3 oct. (8th harmonic, the one I want) at exacltly Major 2nd results in the 10th harmonic, 3 octave and a M3 EDIT: I add an picture what I think is the proper notation, please confirm or deny. It is in the second measure below, an harmonic glis from the 5th harmonic to the 8th
  11. For works for a piano plus another instrument, such as a violin or cello sonata/trio, do you usually give each individual player parts, or do you give them the full score so that they can see what each player is doing?
  12. Is there some place online (not YouTube!) where I can listen to the various bowing techniques in strings. For example, for someone who does not play a string, it is hard to understand the difference in marcato from spiccato fom martellato.
  13. I am working on a cello piece. I wanted to check which of the 3 options in the pic would be the most playable. The options differ only on how to play the high Eb 1st beat 2nd ms. My vote goes to the 2nd. hoping the false harmonic is easy to make, the 5th in the high range isn't that huge an interval, with one of the fingers allready near that Eb spot.
  14. Hey everyone, I just wrote a book called, Cello Chords, which is a guide to harmony on the cello. It covers 11 different types of chords in all 12 keys and is an excellent resource for exploring all different types of music on the cello. You can check it out and purchase it here: www.bryanwilsoncello.com/cello-chords. Thanks guys!
