Hi everyone, This composition that i present here is small in duration 1:30 minutes. It is called "Spiral Into Darkness". It is based on a new composition that i wrote firstly in the piano. It has many dark themes and melodies, which with the usage of choirs sound ethereal and otherworldy. There is also usage of percussion in an avant-garde sense. You can imagine a dark passage with a spiral staircase leading to lower and lower parts, which reflect the inner fields of the listener. Good day everyone. I have taught myself something of late. Since my teenage years, when I started on this path of composing music I have always had a degree of perfectionism that has arguably slowed my completion rate of works considerably. I have much unfinished in my library and to an extent this has been a source of shame of sort. However, I had complete several large works despite this. One such work that I wrote between 2018-2020 is a wind quintet that I was immensely proud of at the time. I had largely convinced myself that it was at a 'perfect' state - that is, there is not much left to refine. But revisiting this work 6 years on, I have learned something interesting: first, that my impression of what was 'perfect' is relative to my skill and experience at the time and that, while the stridence for perfection seems quite static in a mental sense, standards are being continually adjusted through time in accordance with skill development (which is less visible). The second - and probably most important - realization is that when I revisit old pieces that I did complete but are now imperfect; this does not concern me. In fact, those works in effect form a rough foundation for what otherwise could be a brilliant piece of music; the ideas are already there and it mostly becomes an exercise in simply revising the voice leading. Thus, the lesson: what we compose today does not need to be the final product. If we encounter challenges, accepting that it will just be a sketch to be revisited later down the line could actually enable us to be kinder to ourselves. Which brings me to the music itself. Of interest is the Allegro (00:00-04:50) attached that was initially composed for wind quintet. The 5th instrument was not really adding much and its lines could be easily integrated into what was ultimately four part harmony/counterpoint. I make use of certain motifs throughout the work that I hope is noticeable. I have attached a largo that I also revised recently that was scored for 5 winds that will serve as the second movement; and I have just started some rough ideas for the final 6/8 movement. Those who listen, please do share your feedback. If of interest I am also considering running some voice leading tutorials on my Youtube Channel that I intend to grow. Perhaps I can make a video where I revisit old pieces and review the voice leading... explaining my justifications for revisions ect. [Updated - May, 2026] A Fire Within - Main title from the 2026 short film "A Fire Within: A Railroader Movie". Find on YouTube starting on May 16th, 2026. Welcome to A Fire Within, a project I started in February, 2025. This film follows the relationship between two friends, Sam and Andy. The main moral of the story is betrayal and hits at the idea that 'even your closest friends can betray you'. This main theme accompanies this tale and welcomes you to their world and acts as a basis for the rest of the soundtrack. The soundtrack for "A Fire Within: A Railroader Movie" will be released to all streaming services starting on May 16th! Creating the score: Set into a large binary form, this work is in E-minor and is one of my most emotional works. It is very personal to me, as the whole story mirrors a small part of my life. I felt inspired by the soundtrack from the 2010 movie, "Unstoppable" and with Barber's Adagio for Strings. It was my goal to capture melancholic emotions and an overcast/ gray atmosphere. Published on YouTube in 2026, this indie film is an an original story written by Mason Kistler detailing betrayal between two friends. Based on the composer's own experience with relationships between friends, partners, and colleagues, this title theme acts as a reflection of those turbulent times from his perspective. In context of the film, this work acts as vehicle to display various leitmotifs and acts as the foundation for the entire soundtrack. This story established itself as the first short-film made solely in the video game Railroader, which was released in December, 2023. Hey everyone. I have been going back and forth on my first piano concerto for a long time. Unfortunately, I reached a point where my original design has acted as a roadblock for me to finish the first movement. I decided to restart the work and compose from scratch. I will add more context below, however as an introduction, this excerpt is the entire exposition of my first draft. It is five minutes long and I wish to have it preserved here on YCF. So, sit back, and follow along to the work-in-progress of my first concerto! 🎹 ________________ CONTEXT AND FEEDBACK: I started this project back in June 2024 when I improvised the first theme in one of my practice sessions. I fell in love with it and immediately knew I found a theme worthy for a concerto. I am sticking to late classical (and possible romantic hints) for this work. Hummel, Shostakovich, and Rachmaninoff are the main three sources of inspiration for my orchestration. It follows Sonata-form, however using three themes (1st, 2nd and closing theme) in the exposition. Recently, as I have been diving heavily into the works of Mozart, Haydn and Beethoven, it has dawned on me the level of sophistication each composer had in their writing. How Beethoven would use elements of the first theme to make his second theme, and later use the first movement as basis for theme and variation writing or fugal writing in his third movements. So, after a break in the first half of the year, I have been looking at this exposition and tried to add sophistication. However, I noticed so many gaps in the structure. As it stands, it feels like a compilation of several themes versus one long work showcasing the transformation of the motif and form. As a result, I have stopped working on it and grabbed a blank manuscript and wrote down the key three themes I want to use. I have yet to start rewriting, as I want to give my brain a break and simply ask for feedback. This score is outdated and I would ask for no comments on this version. Thanks! This is a single-movement large-scale work that follows sonata form, incorporating smaller inner sections and a fugue in the development section. I tried to build a thematic transformation throughout. I finished it some time ago, but last week I finally got around to inputting the notes into the software (it was actually written on paper in pencil, though). One day, I’d love to dedicate a month or so to detailed performance work on this piece and make a real recording. Anyway, for now, I would appreciate any outside opinions and suggestions, points of view, etc. Why I wrote this piece The main reason I wrote it was simply a strong desire to compose something substantial for solo piano, using some contemporary compositional approaches while mixing them with traditional techniques to create a coherent storytelling experience through music. I would love to hear your feedback on the composition, structure, and, especially, emotional impact. I am especially curious to know if my ideas work on paper. Best, CelvinBarbarossa is the third movement of this World War Two-themed symphony about Nazi Germany's ill-fated campaign to extend its Blitzkrieg into Russia in 1941, which subsequently opened the door for the Allies to fight the German advance on two fronts. Barbarossa ultimately failed due to the Red Army's resolve to fight and Russia's vast territory was too great to conquer. Please let me know what you think about this piece that was composed and sequenced entirely on the Roland FA-06 Workstation and recorded on the Tascam SD-24. I did some light processing with Audacity.This is a Romantic-era styled piano piece with a bit of Bądarzewska-Baranowska's "The Maiden's Prayer," a hint of Paul de Senneville's "Mariage d'Amour," and a dash of Chopin for good measure. This dance depicts two roses, personified as lovers, making a final dance (the title is French for "The Last Dance of the Roses") before departing forever. However, the rose couple finds a last tear of joy as they depart, as if ultimately content to spend their long years together, hence the happy ending.Hello Everyone! But this is the 11th Variation! this is my first Toccata and First Fugue! this toccata took me several weeks and i was inspired by the intro of his Choral Fantasy when i first listened to it! and i decided to dedicate this to Beethoven because I finish the piece a day before his birthday.
