  1. Hi, It has been a few weeks since I have posted some of my own content. I have been asked to write a piece for Organ by a friend of mine who intends to play it at a local church. I have completed drafts of the other two movements although I need to add a bassline. Once that is complete I will upload to the thread. The Allegro is mostly finished; I am just completing the recap and reviewing some of the harmonies. The Bass part in the development section and towards the end of the exposition is intended to be more interesting than that at present; I usually produce a simple harmonic draft to indicate which notes I should emphasize and what not. I will say that the harmony in the development section is uncharacteristically "adventurous" against my track record, however I suppose pushing the boundaries is how we learn best. The focus at the moment is providing a bridge between the first subject and the second subject during the recapitulation. Of course, I cannot replicate what I did in the exposition as I would modulate to D. The second subject must be played in the tonic key in line with sonata form and from what I understand, composers simply added some new material for what would be the transition, modulating instead to the subdominant before ending with a dominant chord, or tonic of the home key.
  2. Dear all, I would like you to write the series of traditional orchestral film music score-styled albums and conduct as well. I suggest we stick to seven albums and that would be enough. And they are: After the Rain - in the style of lush and romantic Maurice Jarre with a slow opening and slow ending (16 tracks) (Piano solos included) Sad Memory - in the style of mournful and emotional Elmer Bernstein with a slow opening and slow ending (16 tracks) (Piano solos included) War on Terror - 9/11 and the Iraq War - in the style of action-packed, dramatic, mournful and emotional James Horner with a slow opening and slow ending (32 tracks) (Piano and trumpet solos included) The Places Between - in the style of lush and romantic John Barry with a slow opening and slow ending (16 tracks) (Piano and harmonica solos included) Golda - in the style of lush, softer and dramatic Georges Delerue with a slow opening and slow ending (32 tracks) (Piano solos included) Friends and Lovers - in the style of lush and romantic Marvin Hamlisch with a slow opening and slow ending (16 tracks) (Piano, tenor sax and harmonica solos included) Notes of the Noblewoman - in the style of haunting and softer Wojciech Kilar with a slow opening and slow ending (32 tracks) (Piano and cello solos included) This will begin ASAP and when it's done I would like you to record each album elsewhere with the live orchestra and group of soloists in Los Angeles starting from next year. Please apply if you are interested. Sincerely, Lwazi Nkiwane
  3. Hey all, I am working on a collection of small pieces, preferably 5, based on short stories (hence the name). I made a rough draft of the first one and was wondering if it was an idea worth continuing. Any comments would be helpful! (Just added multiphonics to the trumpet part, anyone know if the part is playable/ how it would sound in real life?) https://musescore.com/user/20408661/scores/5815887 Thank you!
  4. https://musescore.com/user/20408661/scores/5815863 Trying to make sure this is as good as it can be before I attempt to get a live recording for college pre-screening (due dec. 1st), any info regarding my composition will be helpful. Midi percussion sounds bad but not much I can do about it. If there are any formatting errors please call me out, I need this to be as clean as possible. Also should I change the name to something more interesting? If so what are some suggestions that fit the aesthetic and sound of the piece. Thank you!
  5. This was originally intended for a competition, the last of a suite of movements. Each movement had to contain music that was somehow amalgamated in the last movement. Thus it was written first to be able to choose motifs from it for the other movements. A few phrases are deliberately written "sul pont" and others "sul tasto". The suite as a whole was never completed. The date on the MP3 refers to the day I rendered it. Any comments would be most gratefully received - and thank you for listening.
  6. Hello everyone, I am back, this is the piece I newly composed, hope you commentation.
  7. A short piece intended for a competition but not submitted because of time and other constraints (at least 4 movements were needed). EDIT: I should mention that all movements had to open with common thematic material. In this piece that material lasts the first 12 seconds. Lasts 1 minute. I'm told by a pro who looked through it last night that it would need at least a quartet player to perform it. It should keep any cellist on their toes.
  8. Hi all! That's my new piano composition called "The Lighthouse". It is slightly inspired by the music of Russian composers, such as Glinka. It follows a rather simple A-B-A pattern. A consists of the main introduction theme, a development and a powerful final theme. B consists of a quiet theme in the Major key and a fast, dramatic theme in the minor key. Thank you for listening! Some Feedback would be nice 🙂 Piece No.4 Op.3 - The Lighthouse (online-audio-converter.com).mp3

  10. I recently finished this movement for a piano sonata in the classical idiom though hopefully in my own personal style, though Mozart (particularly his own sonata in A minor) and early Beethoven are influences. I wonder in particular if the left hand maybe too repetitive at times and whether the fugato part in the development is actually playable in its current form. Thanks for taking the time to listen and any feedback is much appreciated.
  11. Hi all, this is my first post here. Was hoping for some feedback on this latest attempt at putting the whole orchestra to work: Peace -Rob
  12. Hi 🙂 I present you here my new short piece for string quartet. It's called "L'été", which means "Summer" in French 🙂 Have a nice day 🙂

  14. Hi guys, would like to now what you think about the composition. Its hard to say in which direction it realy fits, I would say ambiental-classical. DAW: Cubase 10 Elements VST Instruments: Arturia V Collection, EW Steinway Piano VST Effects: Fabfilter Cheers!!
  15. Hi forum 🙂 A short attempt at a duet between a tuba and a violin...Duo pour tuba et violon.pdf
  16. Here is the piano march I composed Roberto Zini - Marcetta Sostenuta I hope you like it.
  17. So I am working on a scherzo and I got the first 3 phrases done but then I reached a composer's block. I am trying to get a more Haydnesque feel to this scherzo while still having some originality. Here are the ways that I have tried to get a Haydnesque feel across: Hemiola in the first phrase, so like instead of quarter note tied to eighth note which would get across 3 beats, I write it as 2 dotted quarters which gets across the feeling of 2 beats in 3/4. In my case, it almost sounds like there is a triplet rest between the dotted quarters, even though I didn't write any rests there. Accenting the subdominant note in the first 2 measures to make it sound like I am in Bb major for a little bit before you realize that it is in F major. The subdominant note in both the first and second measures is on beat 3, so it sounds like I have a 2 beat pickup measure, even though I don't have a pickup measure at all. Sudden dynamic shift corresponding with a shift from simple triads to big chords across both hands(I kind of borrowed this from Haydn's Surprise Symphony) Using an augmented 6th chord in place of a dominant 7th chord Delaying resolution I use a lot of staccato here but I withheld from using it until after the first phrase. Even though I have 19 measures here, it only lasts for 25 seconds because the tempo is at quarter note = 140. So what do you think of my scherzo so far and do you have any suggestions on going further with the scherzo? And do you think the sudden forte chords get across a more Beethovenian vibe? Because I have noticed some people say that the sudden forte chords get across a more Beethovenian vibe and makes the scherzo sound more like one that Beethoven would have written than one that Haydn would have written.
  18. The piece begins with a cadenza and then transform into a beautiful piece about the line between life and death. You should hear the voices of past people as this piece grows. There's much more I have to add to this, but for a start, I'm happy with it.
  19. Hello. I'd like to share my 3 movement sonata with you, an opus i honestly feel deep in every note of every movement. -1st movement: Greatly inspired by Chopin's prelude in C minor and by his generally captivating ostinatos. It is meant to make you feel sorrowfull, grieve and that nobody loves you. -2nd movement: In general meant to make you feel happy. The coda at 3.00 is meant to convey the feelings of reminiscence, similar to Beethoven's 2nd Pathetique movement. -3rd movement: The idea is to contraddict the previous movements to a fast paced, colourfull, mood changing back and forth feeling. Ment to make you feel anxious, crazy, happy, melancholic and mostly in tension. Comment always highly appreciated. Thank you in advance
  20. Hi all i am working on a violin duet and have uploaded the first and second movements to soundcloud. I am working on a minuet and will finish off with a rondo. The andante needs work still I think though the overall shape is ok. Construxtive feedback sought after so thank you for your time https://soundcloud.com/markus-alexander-boyd/duet-for-two-violins-allegro
  21. Hi! I'm new to this site, and I'm not here for myself. I joined this site for my friend who is an amazing pianist and insane at improvisation. He is very good, and what I upload here, with his permission, is pure improvisation. I think that if you give the music a nice amount of feedback, he will have more motivation to compose and improvise more, and I will upload more here. Please listen closely to these audio files from my friend and please give me/him some feedback on his playing. The feedback can be either good or bad. I just want him to be heard, and given feedback to. Piano improv. 2.mp3Piano improv. 3.mp3 Piano improv. 1.mp3 Thanks!!
  22. Hi everyone, I've been composing music for 3,5 years, but it was not until recently I decided to start uploading my music to the internet. I've never received any musical education, I had to educate myself. The first piece I decided to upload is the "Sonata for Viola and Orchestra". Please note, that even though it says sonata in the title, I wasn't sticking to any particular composition form. I would appreciate any feedback you can give me on both my orchestration and composition and your thoughts in general. For the story behind the piece, you can check the description of the video attached here. My idea behind this composition was as follows: The motif that represents life gets introduced in the first part of the composition in a major key (0:00-0:56). Then the piece switches to a minor key and a "loss" motif start playing by a solo viola, representing the losses during the war. After the second repetition of the motif (1:00-2:24), the life motif comes back now in a minor key representing that life has changed for the worse (2:24-3:15). The loss motif is then repeated again and the piece concludes on an unstable minor add9 chord to show the uncertainty of the situation (3:15-4:30). The piece: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4jGyzvWlmY&lc=z221wrhqgxznjvopt04t1aokgbir4xpajzdb5agsljhlrk0h00410 The score is attached here Edit: Uploaded the piece here as well. For the history behind it, you should still check the link Edit 2: Replaced the previous pdf file with the new one, since I found some mistakes (had incorrect crescendo markings around bars 10-11)
  23. A filmic composition that uses both classical and jazz motifs.
  24. I wrote this composition for flute, clarinet in B and bassoon. I produced the track as a live performance simulation with few sound effects, tweeks... Enjoy.
  25. Hi all. I'm new to the group and would love some feedback on my first upload. If this forum would prefer uploads directly to this site, rather than linking to SoundCloud, please let me know.
