  1. Hi all, I’m looking for composers to contribute graphic scores for a score exchange project. Participants will upload graphic scores and there will be an open invitation for musicians to respond with an audio recording of their own personal interpretation of the score. Submissions should be for open instrumentation only (for any number of instruments), and not for specific instrumentation. You are encouraged to consider shape, colour, size, placement, words etc. Responses may be wide ranging - from digital art, to abstract painting, and video score/animation. Graphic notation can give a voice to musicians who find traditional notation limiting yet have the desire to express themselves through composition. Submission is open to anyone who is interested, not just professional composers. This online space will present opportunities for musicians and amateurs to interact and collaborate virtually. A driving motive behind the project is to bring people together in the time of social isolation. If you feel you need some inspiration, this article is a great place to start: https://www.theguardian.com/music/gallery/2013/oct/04/graphic-music-scores-in-pictures Alternatively, some examples of text scores if this is more your thing: Yoko Ono’s Grapefruit, George Brecht’s Water Yam Pauline Oliveros’ ‘Sonic Meditations Here is a link to the Google Form: https://forms.gle/eVyAo1e6UP1XQqmcA Thanks! Eliza 😊

  4. This is a piece of chance music for any combination of instruments. The basic elements of it are 38 phrases vary from 1 to 10 bars. They can be combined vertically and horizontally at random. Everyone of them can be arranged into any octave position on the score. So, the performer must be careful to accord with other performers to secure the coordination of the music. This piece doesn't have a ready-made full score. The specific form of it depends on the improvisations of the performers on basic elements, and therefore each new performance can be counted as a new piece. The audio demonstrated 3 combinations, while the actual combinations are far from these. Isn't it an insteresting thing that performer can use his imagination to create infectious music and take part in the composing process? This kind of avant-garde technique absoultely get rid of the tradition that the performer had been imprisoned by score. It is a fresh new way to organize music. It is not only chance music, but also minimalism. chance music+minimialism=impromptu minimalism. Hope you like it! The video: 作品4之5 重复的艺术_哔哩哔哩_bilibili

  7. So I recently posted a survey asking what young composers and listeners, like yourself, think about "experimental" music. Now there was some confusion to what this kind of music is (since once again, it's a very subjective term). If you completed the survey, please share your opinion below of what "experimental" music is. If you haven't completed the survey, feel free to join in the conversation. The purpose of this, as always, is to get people critically thinking. Maximus
  8. Hi guys, This is a short survey regarding experimental music. It's quite provocative, at least in my opinion. Please take the time to fill it out; it'll make you think about the place "experimental" music has today. Now I know some of you consider yourselves as part of this experimental music spectrum, at least in what you write or listen too. Feel free to share your thoughts by wither messaging me or posting in the forum: I'll be glad to share the results of the survey. You have the right to exit the survey at any time and you have the right to anonymity. I'll be awaiting your responses as I'm sure that everyone has at least something to say. Maximus
