  1. Hello Everyone, Here's a piece I wrote recently that is on Spotify, a full 8-track album is to follow. I will up load the score to view soon. For now, let me know what you think. Thanks!
  2. Hi everyone. I'm new here. I would like to hear your thoughts about a music i composed as a trailer music concept. I'm open to your criticism or views as i could learn from your reaction towards the music. This is a link to the music. https://soundcloud.com/x-feel/self-realised
  3. Hi, I'm a new member and I was hoping if someone could give me advice on how to start advancements towards learning music production and music theory on my own. I try to learn from Youtube videos, but I constantly have a hard time and I also have trouble evn finding hor having funds for equipment. Plus the little I may have, I just feel overwhelmed by it. I also love to write lyrics, but I have no clue how to even start a beat for it. Any suggestions?
  4. Hello everybody, Would it not be fantastic if Young Composers had its own special Magazine composed by the creative members of the forum? Since a few weeks I have been thinking about this idea. I already made a few magazines with the free program called Jilster (https://www.jilster.com/). The advantage of this program is that I (as a chief editor) can give specific pages to other people so that many people can work on one single magazine. The program is very ergonomic: I learned the things I needed to know in one hour of experimenting. Because the idea is still quite vage, I decided to schelude the magazine. This link leads you to the magazine in which you can see the topics I would like to include. https://jil.st/YoungComposersMagazinePreview Before I begin to write for this magazine, I would like to know if you would appreciate it. Could it be an valuable addition to the forum?I would also like to know if some of you are interested to help me. If you want to write about a topic that is not mentioned in this megazine scheme, do not be disappointed. I can give you several pages on which you can write about what you want. Furthermore, if you are interested send me a private message. I am very enthousiast, but of course we all have to be! Please be honest. Maarten *I know that not everybody has all free time to spend on writing and laying out the articles (including me), so there will not be a deadline. It is something extra and it has no priority.
  5. Hey guys, this is my first time on the forum. Just wanted to post some of my music and see where it takes me. This is my first solo piano EP that I've written, it is called distance makes the heart grow fonder and it depicts the feelings experienced by a couple who love each other, yet are separated for a while, starting with a piece depicting the farewell on the train station, then moving to a portrayal of the man experiencing loneliness but thinking fondly of his love "while watching the stars". The third piece is the central piece of the EP and is a melancholy love theme. The final piece is supposed to be a breathtaking depiction of when the eyes of the couple finally meet for the first time again and the bliss and relief of seeing each other again. Link to the EP on Spotify: Constructive criticism appreciated! Please let me know what you think. And if you like it, adding it to your library on Spotify would help me massively. Check out two of the pieces on YouTube as well: Thanks!
  6. This is an original composition by me Christian "Cj" Rhen featuring flute, clarinet, trumpet, violin, cello, and piano. This will be performed at various events and professionally recorded by me for competitions and college apps. Tell me what you think. Instagram is @wind_player1
  7. Hello, This is my first post on this website. I am a radiologist doctor in Thailand who really loves composing music. This song was originally written as slow ballad music sung in Thai language. Later I made this arranged version. I record this on Sonar. Love to hear your comment. PS. You can also check other works I compose on this soundcloud account! https://soundcloud.com/charat-chukiat/i-cant-forget-you
  8. Just a short, fun piece I wrote. https://youtu.be/i_g_6Rla2kA

  11. Please listen to a composition I made today. Is for the main title of a 8bit game. It should be looped more times. It is a finale audio so don't expect a lot of quality of instruments. Any suggestion and comment are great 😄
  12. so im working on a new hip hop album, a collage of beats to just chill with. Here is a taster. https://soundcloud.com/codebreaker-68793702/the-radio-relish
  13. The title basically says it all. Suggest anything (tempo, instruments, style, etc.)
  14. I would really appreciate it, if I could get some critical feedback on this composition of mine as I want to submit it for higher music college studies. That being said, do you think this can be submitted as sample work in the first place? Everything was played and programmed by myself and no loops were used. Would definitely like some feedback on the tune, harmony, and mix etc. of this soundtrack, it would do me a big help. Thank you so much for your time, again, I really appreciate it!
  15. So this is a copy-style of post from Reddit called Change My View (CMV) where commenters are rewarded ∆ (delta, not major lol) for having some hand in changing the OP's mind about a certain subject. In this case, I'd like to explain myself. The more I learn about the intricacies of art, the history of art, and the processes of art as a growing medium, the bigger the gap I see between what humans really feel inside (emotions) and the art that is produced. This goes for any art, by the way. Music, visual art, and especially literature all fall under this. I encourage you to read this essay by T. S. Eliot for a a summing up of some of my feelings towards the subject: https://www.poetryfoundation.org/articles/69400/tradition-and-the-individual-talent In any case, even as music has had the entirety of time to develop, I don't think any person would be able to properly, 100% dictate the emotions they have within their art without some of it getting lost in the transfer process. In addition, your argument to this would be "why does this matter"... as in, even if it can't 100% convey what you feel, that's not reason enough to stop. I think it is. Basically, what's lost from the art-maker's lack of conveyance is filled in by the audience, diluting or sometimes even ruining the emotions you wanted to express. There are essentially very few cases where this has ever been the case (to make this the intention) so I see no reason why I push to express anything. I'll never cope with anything or work through things that pain me or express the happiness I feel of elation or love. So, please, change my view.
  16. Audio might not be exactly the same as the notes. If you have the time for that, please look over the notes. I'm about to hand this piece to the quintet's administrator and wanted to hear another musician's opinions before I do so. Any feedback would be appreciated.
  17. So here is the brand new track, devotion, this is the instrumental, the full version is coming soon, really hope you enjoy
  18. Original Piano Piece Good Evening guys and gals, I'm new here, and my name is Artie I composed this little diddy a while ago for a fan community that I like. I know it isn't really good quality, but it's my first time putting myself out there like this. So, if you can view it, maybe comment there on Youtube,or here and give me some criticism. Bearing in mind, again its my first and as of yet only attempt at publishing me playing piano. A Diamond Shattered: SU fan piece Thanks again for the support, and I hope to hear something soon. ~Artie
  19. Hey all! I had a thought. After graduating with a music composition degree I found that a lot of online courises are directed towards film and game music, bit don't really educate other aspects of music composition. I feel like I am not alone here, so I have decided to start building course that would go over these missing aspects. Please leave your comments here on what you personally would like to see in a music composition course or take 2 minutes to fill out this survey Survey If this really peaks your interest, make sure you answer the last question to get early access to the course when it is completed!
  20. Hi guys just released my Prelude in E for piano. Here's the preview. Whadyall think.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcy1oE4PD7Y&feature=youtu.be
  21. So here is the first track of my latest EP that is coming soon. It takes inspiration from artists such as lorn, and has a very electronic, slightly gritty/dark feel that is designed to accompany image of a similar style and set a particular tone/atmosphere. Certainly game/film music if you know what i mean, hope you enjoy and dont forget to follow and spotify:) Many thanks
  22. So heres my latest track, a chill, kind of, get high to this vibe. Clearly a vibe piece for setting an atmosphere perhaps as appose to a full blown single. Would love your thoughts.
  23. Hey guys, would love your thoughts on this track i did a while ago, many thanks:)
  24. EDIT: This survey is now closed, thanks to all who took part. I may publish the results in February, and if so, I will add a link here later. Hi folks - first post, so apologies to the mods if this type of post is not allowed! I am a composition student at the University of Surrey and I am throwing around a survey across the internet to gather some data on how musicians write music with music notation software - this forum seemed very lively, so I'm very interested in your thoughts. If you are someone that composes/arranges music with music notation software (Sibelius/Finale/MuseScore/etc.) I would be extremely grateful if you could spare 10 minutes to fill out this survey: https://freeonlinesurveys.com/s/eZTxmoaK At the end, there will be two participants chosen in a random raffle that will receive £15 via PayPal. The survey will close in 7 days (6th January 2018). If you have any questions/comments/discussion - fire away! Thank you and have a Happy New Year!
  25. Hi Young Composers, In my latest article, I discussed about why most modern game soundtracks are boring and lifeless and how to remedy it. And this has actually very little to do with composer's technical skill as most would think. Take a read and see if it make sense, or if you have encountered circumstances as discussed in the article. Also, it'll be helpful if composers(you guys!) in this forum can have a discussion if you agree with me or not. :) https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/why-most-modern-game-soundtracks-lifeless-marvel-symphonic-yoa/ Being an experienced composer/audio specialist for visual media with over 10+ years of experience and have worked on projects with over $85 million in the box office and multiple other award winning projects.
