  2. So here is my new track, some new inspirations ans some old for this one off, slightly more organic track. Hope you enjoy:) might also be worth noting this may have vocals eventually
  3. What are your tips for depicting things such as art in music?
  4. So here it is, my latest track, i hope you enjoy it:)
  5. Here's my first serious string quartet, recorded with electronic instruments so the dynamics are displayed very poorly. Separated in 5 small movements, with a backstory in the video description for whoever is interested.
  6. Hey guys, Recently made a chill out tape, just a short 10 minutes or so of what i consider chilled and easy to listen to beats. This mix is a combination of some brand new beats as well as some old, for example some tracks from my latest EP are also here. The tracks in this short mix are all my original creations and have lofi inspirations as well as some downbeat, quite depressed vibes. Perfect for some background music to do some drawing to perhaps? Or simply just to have a smoke with:) Heres a youtube link i hope you all enjoy:) (you can also find iTunes, spotify, bandcamp and google play store links on the channel) Many Thanks
  7. I am a drummer and have been into composing music for picture for the past 8months and I have developed a deep interest in theory and composition. I am currently persuing my BE in mechanical engineering and would want to take up a major in composition. I have question on how to develop a portfolio that can be deemed "acceptable" by these college for the department of composition. I have been reading a lot of theory books. Basic theory books. Started the Fundamentals of composition by Arnold a few weeks ago. Having a hard time reading the example scores. Any advice would be gold right now. Thanks :)
  8. Hi guys just finished my new piano piece Curvetude, guaranteed to relax you! Here's a 12min preview. Hope you like. Many thanks.

  10. Hi fellow composers! My name is Kian, a Shanghai, China based composer and visual media audio specialist. I'm a graduate of the world prestigious Berklee College of Music and have had more than 10 years of industry experience working on a range of projects including AAA+ games such as Eve Online, Dishonored, Spec Ops: The Line, Dust 514 and block buster Chinese films notably Wolf Warrior. You may find more information about me and my works through my website: www.kianhow.com After more than 10 years of being in the industry and having spent considerable time working in the East and West, I have accumulated much highly valuable experience which I believe will help composers navigate through their careers with much ease. And considering the rise of the economic powers of Asian countries in recent years, there will be more opportunities for composers to explore in this region and I will have highly valuable information that can help aspiring composers intending to exploit the growing markets of the east. I have written a series of articles with the specific purpose of assisting composers achieving their goals. If you find my articles to have provided any value to you, do share it to others as sharing is caring and if there's any questions or topics you'd like me to write about, do get in touch with me :) https://www.kianhow.com/single-post/2017/08/08/Truths-About-Being-a-ComposerThat-You-Should-Know-1-Understanding-the-realities-of-being-a-composer https://www.kianhow.com/single-post/2017/08/08/Truths-About-Being-a-ComposerThat-You-Should-Know-2-Understanding-the-function-of-a-“work-for-hire”-composer Thanks and I wish all of you the best of luck with your careers! -Kian Music Composer | Visual Media Audio Specialist www.kianhow.com
  11. Greetings YC Family! It's been a long time since I made a post and visited the forum. For those of you who may recognize me, you know that I was once an administrator on this site. My years on here have aided me in my ventures within the past decade. One of these ventures was the setup and creation of an online radio station devoted solely to promoting the works of new and emerging composers. This post, thus, serves two purposes: 1. To promote Et Lux Radio and encourage each and everyone of you to listen to the music of your peers as it is broadcast 24/7. and... 2. Make a formal call for live, or rendered, recordings of your works along with a signed affidavit giving Et Lux Radio permission to include the works within its broadcast. Submitted recordings need to be downloadable and in .mp3 format. They can be for any instrumentation and must be under 25 mins in length. Please include in your submission a brief biography and any related program notes for your works. Submissions can be emailed to jaowoodr@gmail.com! Thanks and I look forward to hearing your works!
  12. Hello everybody, I need your help / advice! A few years ago I wrote a poem and I now want to set it on music. However, I want that the soprano tells the story. Only in some cases she is singing along with the other instruments. When I want the soprano to speak, do I have to write down the exact rhythm on the staff or should I trust her interpretation of how the rhythm of the words has to be? How do I notate this? In class, we learned that sprechgesang is not singing, nor speaking. It is between the two, but I want the soprano to talk like actors do in a theater show. Thanks for your help, Maarten

  14. Hello, I am looking for an easy way to sell my music (especially sheet music) online, because many people ask for it. Do you know a website or library where I can present and sell my music? If so, please share the link in this topic. There is an advertisement on this forum of the library Tune Bud, but I don't know if this is for music only (sound) or also for sheet music (written). This website works with Paypal and since I didn't have an account yet, I decided to register me at Paypal, but it doesn't recognise my hometown (in Holland). Do you know how I can fix this? I am looking forward to your response! Maarten
  15. I've recently been working on an orchestra piece, and here is the finished product (first draft, at least). I know some of the transitions could be smoother, and I need to add most of the brass parts still. Any advice? https://musescore.com/randomperson555/stars
  16. Hello everybody, A few months ago I discovered minimal music and I immediately fell in love with the simplicity and rest it gives me. At the moment minimal music is one of my favourite genres and I tried to compose a minimalistic piece for Clarinet in A or Bb. Melody for Clarinet.pdf The score is already transposed, so the part will sound different when played by a Clarinet in A than than when played by a Clarinet in Bb. The performer can choose how many times he or she wants to play the repetitions. Glass' masterwork Glassworks is a huge inspiration for this piece. Check it out! (the title of another minimalistic work by Reich) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Stu7h7Qup8 Check it out! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqXhvPIgDL8 Feedback or any comments would be nice! Maarten

  20. Hello everyone, This is my very first post here on youngcompers. I would like to have your feedback on one of my latest music "broken" which is a very, very short instumental music. This piece is part of my new project called "Non-sense" where I try to push music to the absurd and unbearable levels, but still maintain a musical structure. I hope you like it!
