  1. Hi guys just released my Prelude in E for piano. Here's the preview. Whadyall think.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kcy1oE4PD7Y&feature=youtu.be
  2. Here's a piece I did years ago, which I recently put onto Sibelius. It's Baroque/classical(ish) but with extreme orchestral minimalist bashes. Its very rough and def needs tweeking, but whaddya think? Hope you enjoy Mike
  3. Over winter break, when I should have been working on my pieces I've started for my degree, I procrastinated and wrote this piano piece instead. It's a fun little thing which isn't too deep or meaningful I suppose, but that's the kind of stuff I like. I showed it to my mum to play (who is a piano teacher and a very good sightreader) and she said she quite liked it, but one suggestion she had was that around the last page and a half or so, the tempo should gradually increase slightly so that it wasn't just the same thing as the start all over again, although to me there's enough variation I put in already. She said as a teacher, she would probably suggest to her students to start speeding up at least near the end. I'll be showing this to my tutor once term starts up again for their opinion as well. My mum also said the piece could definitely be useful for school examinations here in Australia, where one of the pieces is required to be an Australian work composed within the last 25 years, and that she was willing to try it out on some of her students.
  4. Hi everyone! I just released my debut piano album on 25th of October, so it´s still very fresh. It contains 10 of my original compositions and 1 re-make of an 80´s pop song which I´ve made on a request of the artist himself. Please take a listen to the full album here and let me know how you like it! If anyone would be interested, you can buy the album here: https://oliverbohovic.bandcamp.com/album/ballerina
  5. Hello! Here is my latest composition with a theme, on which I have always wanted to write music: DINOSAURS! This short one-movement sonata is composed for alto saxophone and piano. I will perform this piece for the pre-study composition on alto saxophone accompanied by a pianist. The sonata is kind of programmatic: The setting is a restful valley full of dinosaurs (including tryceratops). Baby dinosaurs are playing and having fun, but then the dinosaurs smell danger. There is panic, because the dinosaurs are not sure where the predators will come from, they only hear their heavy footsteps. Suddenly an enormous tyrannosaurus runs out of the forest. A friendly baby triceratops flees and runs as fast as it can. It is catched by the predator, but luckily the tyrannosaurus has become tired. The baby escapes and all dinosaurs continue with their restful life in the beautiful valley. I hope you like it! Feel free to comment! Maarten
  6. Hi everyone, Here's a short piece for piano trio I wrote over the summer. Let me know what you think and things I should keep in mind for future pieces. A clearer PDF score is attached below. Thanks! J Shu
  7. An attempt to compose a small, fairly simple adventureous and journey-like piece. I'm not sure how to classify the genre of this piece, maybe something between romanticism and pop songs. I'm not used to music theory , writing scores etc and this was the first time I tried to compose a piece completely in a score software, so this is probably the main reason for this piece's shy melodical appearance. The exported midi file was rendered in a DAW. Feel free to comment. Thanks for listening, I hope you enjoyed it! The overall shape of this piece goes like: a - b - c - d1 - d2 - c' - d1' - d2' - a' - b' - b'' - e a: Introductory theme. b: dramatic theme/development to part c c: Small "good-feeling" melody in a major key. d1: fast dramatic theme d2: variation of d1 c': festive variation of c d1' and d2': variations of d1 and d2 a': Theme from a played one octave higher with slight variations. b': Variation of b with a faster arpeggio pattern and fuller chords. b'': Variation of b' in a major key with a finishing festive character. e: final chords and quotation of the ending of the introductory theme (a)
  8. Hello All, Please check my new piano songMiranda.mp3. I'd like to hear your comments. Thanks :)
  9. A tune suitable for the holidays ... I'd love to get everyone's feedback on this one. It's my first digital recording in a while.
  10. Hello! [Partly the description in the program booklet and youtube video] Maarten Bauer – Melodrama No.1 ''The End of His Story Started Here,'' Op. 45. 11th of August 2017 Dedicated to all the victims in concentration camps during World War II. The music begins at circa 2:00 On the 18th of November 2017 (one of the) most prestigious composition competition(s) in the Benelux took place: Prinses Christina Compositie Concours. I submitted my Melodrama No.1 ‘’The End of His Story Started Here’’ and to my surprise I won the first price of competition! I cannot express my gratitude for the judges, the performers (Trio Burlesco+) and the audience! Furthermore I would like to thank the other participating composers for the amazing experience and relaxed atmosphere during the stressful day. Description This melodrama uses the poem, which I have written in 2014 (see the text below), based on John Boyne’s astonishing book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. This composition is composed for the Trio Burlesco and a soprano and a percussionist (Trio Burlesco+). The text and music strengthen each other, so none of the two can be omitted. The innocent soprano is both narrator and singer and she symbolizes the actions, the emotions and the thoughts of the main character in the poem: Shmuel. Shmuel is a Jewish boy, who has just arrived in Auschwitz, which is called Out-With by Boyne. He does not know where he is and he cannot find his family, consisting of his father, mother and his big sister, whom I called Anat, which means ‘singing.’ The motivation for me to write such a heavily-weighted piece, namely an innocent young boy who will probably die in a Nazi concentration camp, is because I noticed that people in my surrounding realize less and less that freedom and peace are not obvious. It is the greatest gift that we can live in freedom and peace in the Netherlands. I noticed that this important consciousness gradually drains away by the years. Therefore I wanted to compose a piece, which remembers us that we have to be grateful for the lives we now live and that the indescribable terrible crimes may never be repeated. When I wrote the poem, my tears flowed. When I composed the Melodrama, my tears flowed. And now again, my tears flow, because this may never happen again. Never. https://christinaconcours.nl/alles/9667/
  11. I think i'm finished with this one although unsure about the ending. I wanted to write something a bit faster than I normally would. I don't have the score as Logic is terrible for that. Enjoy and comments welcome as per. Any feedback really is welcome, good or bad.
  12. I've been making myself composing every day. Here's what I did today! :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUPNIRQ6ZoM&feature=youtu.be
  13. Hello guys, first time posting a song here. That's a project I started not long time ago where I write all the music and lyrics in english (I'm a native portuguese speaker). It's very intimate, genuine but I'm not a pro. Any feedback would be good. Hope you like it:
  14. Hi everyone! I wrote this piece, "Penumbra", at the request of a teacher, and I liked how it came out. The inspiration musically was based around progressive rock and jazz fusion structures and harmony. I have only a little experience with clarinet and cello, so I'm not sure whether all of the fingerings are ideal. I'd be very grateful if any players of those instruments could give me feedback on that. Penumbra.pdf Penumbra.mp3
  15. I just finished up my Christmas composition project. Here's a two minute piece on the topic of "you need to define a thing to be able to think about a thing, so that you have a word to attach your thoughts to." Apparently blue is the last color to gain a word in any language. There are still languages that haven't evolved a word for the concept of "blueness" yet. One theory is that color words appear as we need to be able to distinguish between things that we want to buy, sell, or trade: "Yeah, I can make you a new deer skinning knife. What color do you want the handle to be?" "Blue." Because blue paints and dyes are relatively difficult to produce, compared with other colors, cultures don't develop a word for "blue" until they are pretty advanced. The cultures that don't have a word for it, interestingly have a hard time seeing and thinking about it as well. Scientists have done experiments where they have say, three green squares and one blue one, and ask these language users to pick out the square that is not like the others, and people have a very difficult time with the task. It seems that our brains need a word to attach a concept to in order to think about the concept. We need to think using our interior monologue. Actual language has to be running inside or outside of our heads in order for us to think in any meaningful way. It's an explanation for why you can't do basic math and listen to someone having a conversation involving numbers at the same time. So get out there and learn the names of things, any kinds of things, and your basic thought processes will deepen. I'd suggest that you open the score while you listen so you can see how the text fits the notes, or click the youtube link below. It has the score scrolling along behind the music. And I used a harp sound instead of piano, because all the piano sound fonts that come with my composition software are pretty clunky, but I do intend this to be piano accompaniment. Thanks for listening and I'd love to hear any thoughts about this piece! Furtak-Semantic.mid
  16. This is my first post on this forum, I am looking to get some feedback on a piece I have been working on recently. The chord progressions are of constant structure, non-diatonic major chords, switching to non-diatonic minor chords for the second section. Be warned, I am a big fan of dissonance; if it's too much for you please don't hesitate to include that, I sometimes go a little over the top after listening to the same thing over and over, and I don't realize until later. euphoralgia.mp3
  17. I was just practicing music theory, and then, I decided to write something classic, and I tried to follow every rule I learned. Also, I could solve the problem "feeling incomplete" by using Cadence. I hope you enjoy!
  18. I uncovered this piece from a while back. I'd started it with the intention of it being music for an advert but it grew (by accident, I got carried away) into something bigger. I'm still under the impression it's only really background music. Let me know what you think. This was the last version i put to MP3 so I'm going back through it now to 'clean it up'
  19. Hey! I'm sure you guys know that I'm a fan of ambient music. Also, I like to experiment it on all instrument I really can play or write for. Today, I just had a challenge : Writing ambient music using only piano. So, I wrote this 15 seconds and applied lots of effects on that. The melody is in C major key and also, there's no score (because I did everything in FL studio).
  20. Hi, I'm a classical trained piano player. However, since I listened to Yiruma's piano music, I was inspired to start my own composition :) My friend commented that this composition, After Rain, is like "Bach Meets Yiruma" piece since overall it has classical vibe but towards the end it goes emotional. Here is the link: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=AijLtevhAwM Let me know what you think. All opinions and feedback are really appreciated! Thanks a lot!
  21. My first ever completed composition from March 2017.
  22. Hey everyone! I've been recently posting some of my piano pieces from my new album and this is yet another one of them. It's actually a very old musical idea of mine, I think it was one of my first piano pieces, but it seemed unfinished so I made some changes and additions to the original and the result is here. Feel free to let me know how you like it! If anyone's interested, you can listen/buy the full album here 💿https://oliverbohovic.bandcamp.com/album/ballerina💿 Or here 📀http://store.cdbaby.com/cd/olivernosaczynskibohovic📀
