  6. Here is a piano piece I composed in 2018 Avvenire I hope you like it. Thanks.
  7. Hey guys I thought I would try to write an orchestral piece and I wanted some feedback on how its constructed and how I could improve. I wanted to just loop 1 similar idea and see what I could do with it. I plan on developing the main melody as it goes on so its not as repetitive
  8. Hello everybody, This was my first saxophone quartet that I composed one and a half year ago. . . (Opus 8). When I composed it, I was into composing for max. four months. I There are mistakes everywhere and when I wrote this I did not understand how to modulate (LOL), so there are quite subite transitions to other keys. I thought it would be fun for you to see how I am developed in one and a half year. The Mozart and Haydn influences are evident. I find this piece now uggly, but still I think at some places the music is pretty nice. The uggliest parts in my opinion are the endless repetitions, which makes the music too monotonous and boring. What do you think? Maarten
  9. So, @danishali903 called for solo viola pieces. Here are my 2 cents. I really hope the double-stops in the second piece are not uncomfortable to play :D In fact, all those legatures of the second piece can be ignored and substituted by whatever you think is more idiomatic and executable.
  10. Hey guys, I've been looking for some help on how to improve my voice leading in this piece I've been working on: http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/53776a09feb33c2a470b1adabe6119aa895300c0 It's sorta hard finding help on your compositions when you don't have a teacher. :( Also checking this counterpoint exercise would be helpful as well: http://www.noteflight.com/scores/view/7e882c8f0658b683ea26d1e9adabb496ea7b5b90 Thank you!
  11. So, what is your favorite musical repertoire for your principle instrument? I play oboe, and I have to say, without a doubt, Ralph Vaughan Williams' Oboe Concerto here are the three movements in order. Rondo Pastorale, Minuet and Mussette, and Scherzo It's amazing!! and what I love a lot is that the peak (or what seems like a peak to me) in the third movement is pp. It's quiet but rich. So tell me! your instrument you favorite repertoire for the instrument (feel free to post more than one) and if possible, a link so I can hear it!! :)
  12. How can one obtain truly objective judgement about the worth of one's piece? How does one judge whether one's piece is worthy or unworthy of performance at a concert? Even if it were, do you think a performer would give it the benefit of the doubt (or take the necessary risk) if you are unknown as a composer, even if they knew you as a person? And how do you know if a performer is simply being kind with you in your face while at the back of their mind they think your piece is trash? I am asking because I don't want to be reduced to "begging" performers to even try out my piece. And when they are all kindness and hide their real idea of your piece, then they are already treating you as a "beggar" and being "kind" to your feelings by not revealing their true idea about your piece - that your piece is worthless to them! And who said even their true idea about your piece is correct or truly objective? Why should composers be at the mercy of performers (or even audiences) as regards the worth of their piece and its right to be performed?
  13. I think that many a piece of mine could have benefited from further revision had I not decided too soon that it was finished. Now I am becoming more careful before declaring a piece finished. So how and when do you know (or decide) that a piece you are working on is finished?
