  1. This is a popish sort of tune I made up in Sonar 8.5. I know, I know, it would have fit in back in the late 60’s or early 70’s. But that’s the pop music I love. I’m interested to hear opinions on composition, arrangement, melody, and how everything comes through in the mix. It badly needs a vocal. I have the lyrics written, I just don’t have a singer. I tried to get that awesome bari sax sound on The Beatles “Savoy Truffle”, it’s no where close, but it’s the best I could do with the sample libraries I have. First person to say “It needs more cowbell” wins a brand new shiny car. EDIT: There are two mp3's, one is without the horns and synths just so the melody is clearer. That, and I'm not really too thrilled with my horn arrangement.
  2. Here’s another one with heavy Beatles influence. I’m interested to know how the balance is and if the bass is too loud. Thanks for listening.
  3. Here’s another piece I wrote on piano. Yes, it needs a vocal, but you’ll have to settle for the flute-y thing. There’s a lot going on in places and I’m not good at measuring dB levels, clashing frequencies, and all that sort of mind numbing stuff. I just like focusing on musical elements like melodies, harmonies, dynamics and stuff. I hope you at least get the flavor of the piece. It’s in F# minor, one of my favorite melancholic keys. I would appreciate feedback on everything from overall composition, arrangement, instrumentation, dynamics, and... *gulp*, the technical stuff like “boost the mid-range at around 20dB” (I actually just made that up and haven’t got a clue what it even means). I NEED AN ENGINEER DAMN IT! hehehe. But really, I do. Enjoy. -Rick
  4. I’m thinking about entering a song writing contest but I can’t decide which of these two pieces to use. I think I’ve posted both of them here in the past for critiques, but now I just want to know which one I should use as an instrumental entry. Also, the titles; “Mental Suicide” and “I Don’t Want to Think” are really only working titles because of words that popped into my head as I was humming out the melodies, they can be changed. I’d like an opinion on that as well. Any feedback would be most appreciated. -Rick
  5. The new and improved arrangement of a little ukulele tune I made up. I made a few changes (not that anyone would ever notice), but of course, I notice. Any feedback would be most appreciated, especially with regards to the supporting arrangement for the “flute-y” melody. Being as the flute-y thing gets split into 3 part harmonies, I’d be interested to know whether the main melody (the singular line of the first verse), gets lost. And, as with all my stuff, is the bass too loud, too soft, or just fine? Does it work as an instrumental? Maybe for some cheeky video game? The “Kirby” series comes to mind. I love the tunes in “Kirby’s Epic Yarn”. I intended it to have a vocal but my singing voice requires a lot of auto-tune, and besides, I don’t have a great microphone. That and I don’t much care for writing lyrics. Thanks in advance.
  6. Here’s a tune I wrote on my acoustic guitar. I added an arrangement. It’s all virtual instruments done in the piano roll of Sonar 8.5.
  7. Hi guys, HAPPY NEW DECADE FROM US IN "THE CONEHEADS FROM DRONJOMLAND" 😍😍 What have happened since last time, in my life? I was active at this forum more than a decade ago, my first little pieces I uploaded here. In 2014 I left Norway, traveled alone in Southern Europe and Liverpool and Scotland for more than 4 years 💪I met travelers and musicians from all over the Place. Then I came back to Norway 14.August 2018. Now I work in two different food stores in my city, here is 50000 Citizens, I work 5 days a week, I worked a lot in December, its called Rema 1000, they was inspired by Aldi when they started this brand many years ago. One of the shops I work in its 660 square meeters, its at the biggest shopping mall in the city, I will not quit if I become famous for the music one day. I love to work inside the cold room behind the milk and yoghurt and butter and egg, maybe because it makes me feel like a Norwegian viking after all my travelings in lovely Europe? But my dream is still to work with Music, I dream about working in London one day with my music mate Kurt Laursen. I have put together a new music page, so I am curious what you think about our music 🤔 so have a look and tell us your true opinion 😡 🤗 Tomorrow I will fly to Tenerife with my girlfriend Heidi, we have been together since 2.November 2018. So, I will dive a lot in the pool and run in the sand at the beautiful beaches while thinking of my awesome future with the music Production 😎 😏👍👍 http://www.dandron.com/dronjom/gjennombrudd.htm GOD BLESS YOU GUYS. Best regards and best wishes, Daniel Rønjom
  8. Hi all! That's my new piano composition called "The Lighthouse". It is slightly inspired by the music of Russian composers, such as Glinka. It follows a rather simple A-B-A pattern. A consists of the main introduction theme, a development and a powerful final theme. B consists of a quiet theme in the Major key and a fast, dramatic theme in the minor key. Thank you for listening! Some Feedback would be nice 🙂 Piece No.4 Op.3 - The Lighthouse (online-audio-converter.com).mp3
  9. Here's a tune I wrote in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll with some old virtual instruments. Thanks for listening. -Rick
  10. This is a ukulele song I made up. I used a finger picking style, not the usual ukulele strum. I wrote it on my real uke and then transferred the notes one by one using a virtual instrument ukulele into the Sonar 8.5 piano roll. I then filled it out with an arrangement using other virtual instruments. Here’s a Soundcloud link, or you can play the uploaded mp3.
  11. Live long and prosper. You might need to turn the bass down. It sounds fine on my listening device but I have the bass eq turned down a bit.
  12. I wrote this on my acoustic guitar. This is a virtual instrument acoustic guitar. It’s out front at the start but soon gets kind of lost in the mix. I worked so hard at crafting the finger picking and now I can’t hardly hear it. Why am I complaining? I’m the one who covered it up! Don’t know why, but the last part reminds me of “Toy Story” with Woody and the gang sitting on the fender as the car drives into the sunset. Yes, no, maybe? https://soundcloud.com/user-686710883/i-love-you
  13. This is an acoustic guitar song that I wrote (currently in instrumental form). Kind of has an Elizabethan vibe. Transferred all guitar notes one by one from my real guitar to a virtual instrument guitar in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll then filled it out with an arrangement. Tedious? Yeah, a bit, but I enjoy working like that. The uploaded mp3 sounds heavy on the bass but I use an eq on my listening device to reduce bass. Feel free to comment. I uploaded the mp3 below but here’s a soundcloud link if you prefer:
  14. Here's an instrumental I wrote for no particular reason other than a challenge to write a guitar song completely with a virtual guitar in the Sonar 8.5 piano roll. I didn't allow myself to utilize a real guitar just for the challenge. Therefore I don't actually know if the guitar parts are in proper form, but it sounded good to my ears so I filled it in with an arrangement; drums, strings, etc. Hope it comes across well. Feel free to comment on any aspect of the piece.
  15. I hope to do something related to music in the future, but I have no idea where to start! I love music in general, and mainly listen to genres such as pop. I was hoping to try out songwriting as it seems so interesting, but like I said earlier, I don't know how to start. I tried writing lyrics, and it seems like with the proper inspiration, I can maybe work it out in that aspect. However, I need help finding a melody and instrumental...I dunno....is anyone willing to collaborate? I'd love to see how people come up with songs, and it would be a great learning experience for me. Also...any suggestions? Thanks a lot in advance!
  16. Here's another ukulele song with arrangement that I wrote. This time with strumming. Please comment on anything that stands out as too loud. Luis Hernandez commented that the tambourine and bass were too loud. I've uploaded a re-mix where I've re-adjusted those two volumes. I don't know if it helped so any comments are appreciated. I also re-worked some melodies and harmonies.
  17. Here's a piano song with arrangement. No vocal. If the ending sounds kind of like The Beatles "Hello Goodbye" that's because I absolutely had to modulate the key and it just wanted to go there... so, sue me. :) Here's the box.com link: https://app.box.com/s/b2ckd7sasb6n95hk67zt6c65l6ufngrt
  18. Here's a little ukulele song I wrote in 3/4 time. No strumming, just finger picking. I like finger picking on the uke. Actually it's a virtual instrument ukulele. As usual I put the notes one by one into the Sonar 8.5 piano roll going back and forth from my ukulele to my laptop. Then I worked out the arrangement. 19. When listening to this think of a war movie like maybe Tom Hanks in the thick of it wearing green fatigues. I don't know why that image sticks in my head when I hear this. Anyway, I wrote it on my acoustic guitar then transferred the finger picking note by note into Sonars piano roll using an acoustic guitar sample library uuugg... then all that work got covered up as the arrangement got more complicated. Oh well. Here's the link at box.com: https://app.box.com/s/22h9nh5kqa90c3tjh5mmfhh5n69e69ws
  20. Here's a ukulele song I wrote with finger picking rather than the more common uke strumming style. What can I say... I'm a finger picker. Again, as with much of my stuff, the flute-y thing is the vocal guide. I love composing and arranging. Singing.. not so much. This is a bouncy song and I think it employs the so-called "circle of 5ths" but I'm not one hundred percent sure about that as I don't really understand music theory. 21. Yet another piano song with no vocal. :( Yeah I know, it sounds like early 70's. I love that period. But nothing beats 60's music! Here's the box.com link: https://app.box.com/s/gaavrwm7ckphzp5p1gvoyjqt5mbyt7pj
  22. I know, it's kind of a weird title. Most likely a reflection of my Asperger's, OCD, and depression. I'm kinda proud of this one because I wrote it completely without picking up an instrument. Just me, some virtual instruments, my Sonar 8.5 DAW, my laptop and a mouse. Here it is at box.com: https://app.box.com/s/5pohfncrhmxa732qzu1l3w6on2zxvwyr
  23. As usual with most of my stuff the flute-y thing is the vocal guide if I should ever add a vocal. This is a piano song. Nothing fancy just some chords woven together with a melody. I love changing keys and then trying to find a way back. This songs bridge went somewhere I didn't expect and after unsuccessfully trying many options to navigate back to the original key I just sort of gave up and rather than fighting with it just tied the two disjointed keys together and somehow it worked. 24. Here’s a song I wrote. The flute-y thing is the vocal melody guide. Don’t know how the levels sound on any other system than my pc and iPad. I post my stuff at box.com. Here’s the link: https://app.box.com/s/tgn6sksdognxsnqscvi9iagxqay6pt49
  25. Here's a piano song with arrangement. The Star Trek thing was just for fun because it fit the 4ths on the piano so I just left it in. I post my stuff at box.com. Here's the link: https://app.box.com/s/37wdu4duldseq71l32hqd9honlg7sauk
