Hello all! The point of this project is to create a handful of excellent concert pieces for solo piano based on the soundtrack to Final Fantasy I (a video game first released 1987), basically making a giant YC ''suite mosaique''. Everyone may participate! Just post if you wish to reserve a track. (you're limited to 3 tracks)

Let the tunes inspire you...

And please do participate even if you give squat about games! The purpose here is to take something very minimal and expand on it.

Tracklist

01) Prelude Nirvana69

02) Opening Theme [MusicManJ4]

03) Cornelia Castle [oboehazzard] DONE!!

04) Main Theme [berlioz] (tentative)

I have attached midis of all the pieces. Note that you have to change the extension of the file from .txt to .zip.

I've never realised how simple this music actually is until you said, "... take something very minimal and expand on it."

I'm calling 13 - Airship and 2 - Opening Theme

Does the ensemble type matter? Like full orchestra, band, string quartet, brass choir, ect.

Whoa, duh! I got a little too excited and forgot! I was all ready for a kickin' brass arrangement of Airship, too. Oh well.

I'll do the opening theme, but not airship, then. Sound good?

(now that I've made a thorough donkey of myself  )

Yep. I've added ya. Robin Requested ''battle scene'', I added him too.

I would have loved to do a suite with a bunch of random ensembles, but I'm trying to make this an easy thing to perform.

I'm trying to be idiomatic, personally, but my piece isn't turning out easy at all.... I'm about 0:34 into it. Into sketching a section that I have no idea where will go in the final product, that is. But it'll go somewhere, that I know.

4 hours of hard work later/ I'VE FINISHED :) woohoo. I'm very happy with it. It's a simple AABAC thing, the B section being an improvisation on the main Volcano theme. ;)

Now for polishing.

If you can somehow prove that you used the theme as a basis for the piece... Then mangle it behind recognition!!

Fox: i'd like both sib and midi

This is a wonderful idea!

I really like it!

I would like to ask some questions though before I make my choice...

Is there a limit in time? Or the piece we compose will have the same length as the original? Is there a requirement in styles? How much are we allowed to put "ourselves" in the piece :D?

EDIT:

I forgot about the tonality... We must keep the same tonality? I suppose the tempo must be close to the original if not the same, and that is not a problem..

My choice would be the no. 7 the city theme! But if it's taken I would reconsider at another!

Excellent!

You can do whatever you like to the theme! Tonality, metre, etc... mangle it all! Just make sure you can prove that you based your piece on the track in question. I've added you to track 7!

About length, It's all up to you, but I'd like it to be at least 3 minutes or longer. (preferably much longer :D) Of course, if you think the piece will benefit from being very short then that's up to you. Use your judgement.
