[April Fool's 2008] Young Composers is Closing Down

Recommended Posts

I regret to inform you that Young Composers will be closing down in the next week. The plans for the social network and music management have been cancelled. Unfortunatly, I have lost my job, and I cannot afford to keep up with the site's costs any longer since Young Composers has been nothing but a liability. However, SoundClick has offered to buy the site from me. Their plans are to merge our existing forum data with their forum board, and as a result, everyone will be included into SoundClick's own custom social networking. The good news is, everyone would be eligible for a subscription discount as an existing YC user. The bad news is, the Young Composers domain will be absorbed, meaning, SoundClick will redirect Young Composers to their domain because they want to build on their own URL. They want to do this because they expressed to me that their focus is not just on young composers and classical music, but all amateur musicians and all genres of music. Therefore, a name like Young Composers could possibly ruin their branding image.

The administrators/moderators and rest of staff will be relinquished from their positions due to this change, but SoundClick already has a large and effective staff. With this change, it is possible that any banned members will now be able to re-sign up, since our staff will have been absorbed, and our rules will be eliminated since the rules will be up to SoundClick now. It has been a nice 2+ years with you all, and I am terribly sorry about this.

To hell with you all!

It's not a joke!

And instead of trying to help you just try to "wish" it would go away!

Damn you all!

____________

I look like a reviewer in the forums, but after many chats and real life meeting with Mike (the Mike Mike, not Chopin Mike), we had agreed that I would help any way I could.

This included a highly sophisticated book about orchestration (Marius knows about it already) and other things as well, which I spilled blood in order to get going.

Now everything is falling apart. An 8 year old site, is going to soundclick hell.

And all you can think about is how to "wish it away"?

Shame on you! Honestly shame on you!

I can't believe this...it's horrible! I love this place...

Isn't there any way we can help out? I hadn't really thought of the costs and stuff before but I have some money I could spare. Maybe other people do as well? My mind hadnt been on how the administration worked at all before now but I'm more than willing to give something back.

APRIL Fools!

I've been on YC for quite a while. You mentioned before that the contract has already been signed. Therefore, quitting is impossible. HAH! :P

I have the same feeling. This must be an April fools... or otherwise I will really ... something.

I cannot express in words how disappointed I am :sadtears:

If this now is not a joke, then I would like to give a warm hand for the staff team that was structured and defined this lovely site!

I'm willing to donate to keep the site running.

Nothing personal, but I find it very funny since you just recently joined and already willing to donate money - well of course you did not specify the amount

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

I only wish I'd had time to finish my orchestration masterclass.

Well, goodbye all, have a good life.
