arnevr
Hello, I think I have a stupid question... What kind of flute is the flute you hear in the score of Titanic... You can also hear it in the intro My heart will go on... Thank you
Marius
It's not actually a flute, per se. It's called an Irish Pennywhistle (or Tin Whistle, or Kenna, or any number of other traditional names). Very pretty-sounding instrument. :)
arnevr
Aha, I love the accents of it's sound...
arnevr
Do you know any good sample library which has one in it??
Marius
Yep. EWQL's Ra has one, which I've heard used to great effect before. You can find the library HERE. It's basically the best ethnic instrument library out there nowadays, but the price reflects that. On a more accessible level, there's also THIS package from Bela D Media. Along with it's Volume 2, it contains just about all the Celtic woodwind instruments you're ever likely to need, and it sounds great. I've heard it's also a joy to play (via MIDI keyboard). There are likely some free soundfonts of questionable quality floating around the internet somewhere that can give you a decent approximation of the sound, but I don't know any off the top of my head to point you to. Google is your friend. ;)
arnevr
Thank you very much... :) I would really like it to use one in one of my compositions.
Marius
No problem, let me know if you manage to find a good sample and use it. I'd be curious to hear what you come up with. :)
arnevr
Well just found out that i have a Tin Whistle in Logic 8 Pro... It's not brilliant when you use it dry... But when adding some reverb and using your modulation wheel... It's sounds pretty good... Have you ever heard of "breath control"? Ever used it? Was wondering how that works... Sorry for my english, it's not my first language.
nigelkeay
"breath control" - I've never used one, but I think you're referring to a MIDI controller that you'd blow into as in a mouthpiece. I have a yamaha synth that has a socket for one.

Marius
I've played with a Yamaha one and I have to say that they're AMAZING. They can make even the most mediocre patches sound extremely real, so it's worth checking out to see if you can find one at a discount somewhere. SSC
You'd think that guy would find the damn sample himself after 12 goddamn years, yo.
