iben
Dear experts, I'm writing this post to get some help as I don't really know that much about classical music. I'm preparing to shoot a short film, and in one scene I'll have a violinist playing in the street. I would like to find a piece for violin that would sound rather melancholic, and somehow represent the misery my characters are going through. Would anybody have some ideas? Thanks a lot! Iben. Berg, baby. Alben Berg, Violin Concerto.
Guest QcCowboy
Berg, baby. Alben Berg, Violin Concerto. I would describe the Berg concerto is "anguish" rather than misery.
Voce
Well...there are some moments in Allan Pettersson's Seven Sonatas for Two Violins that are full-on desperation style. Like the first movement of the second sonata.
Christopher Dunn-Rankin
As we've discussed before, asking for a piece that "presents" or "represents" misery is very difficult, due to the subjective nature of human emotional relationships to music. Pretty much, unless a composer puts the word "misery" in the title, we could all disagree.
Guest thatguy
Since I've never played violin nor held one in my hands before, I'll improv something for you.
chodelkovzart
the violin is a voice. it can be misery, or not.
iben
Thanks for helping guys, I think I've got one, I guess as some of you point out, almost any piece could represent misery, or not, also I would like not only to express the misery but also give a hope, I'm thinking about Wagner's Tr
jujimufu
Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor would sound quite sad if you took just the solo violin part of the beginning and played it quite slowly.

blackballoons
I would say Barber's Adagio but that's for string orchestra.... I would also say Barber's Violin Concerto but that's too...pretty.
