Speaking of Messiaen, I've become quite obsessed with La Nativite Du Seigneur, and Turangalila (particularly movement 4 - I love when he piles up all those themes on top of each other towards the end.)

I havent really listened much Messiaen I need to look him up on I tunes.

Current fave? Well, I'm working on the Pampeana No. 2 Rhapsody for 'cello and orch, which I record Friday, so that's preety much all I think about right now.

Awesome piece, actually. If you can, listen to the cello octet transcription or the full orchestra version (the piano reduction that I'm having to work with preety much stinks, but until I have my own orchestra at beck and call, it'll do...).

My favorite piece of music is third movement of the first Mahler's Symphony. It is a Trauermarsch (funeral march) and i like it because of the moderate mood, very calm. I like particularly two themes. First is the canon "Frere Jacques" and its variation. The second theme is played after the canon, it is more lively and sentimental.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again, I'll never understand what people's fascination with Mahler is.

Anyway, currently my favorite piece of music is Ravel's Jeux d'Eau. It's hard to find a good interpretation (either way too fast or too slow) but when you happen to stumble upon a good one, it's just pure magic.

That's because you either love him or hate him. There's very little chance for anything in-between.

For once, I actually agree with you on something. Amazing. Though, I don't really hate Mahler. I even like him on rare occasion, like his second symphony. Albeit not enough to actually get through the entire thing in one sitting but it has its moments. I just don't understand why people make such a fuss over him. *shrug* Maybe in time I will appreciate Mahler and his excessiveness.
