Why I dislike *most* music from the Romantic era

OP is pretty ignorant to claim that counterpoint (and the polyphonic tradition) played a small or insignificant role in the music of Schumann, Chopin, Schubert, Korsakov or any of the other examples. Nevermind that he's ignoring the ENTIRE loving POINT of what was the pre-vienna classic galante style (simplification, movement AWAY from the polyphonic traditions!) IE, the entire opposite of what OP posts.

Clearly the whole thing is just nonsense. Go study more, post less.

If we're talking Tchaik 4 and 5, then I'd agree. Anything else by Tchaik, barf :(

Are you also excluding the fourth movement of Tchaikovsky's Sixth? Because it's quite well done, and if you listen to it and analyze it I think you'll actually find it quite a bit more interesting than you've previously stated.

Actually I was reffering more to the 2nd and 6th. While I love the 4th, I can't listen to it more than once in a row. The 5th is yuck.

And 1812! AH!! Or Marche Slave or the Cappricio or SWAN LAKE!!! Swan Lake is lovely.

Marche Slave....Eww...

It's not even so much from the compositional perspective, but I have grown REALLY sick of that piece. Three weeks before the concert, the only thing to practice is Marche Slave, so during rehearsal we go over it, and over it, and over it, and OVER THE SAME FREAKIN PARTS A MILLION TIMES.

Actually, it has been a little while, maybe its time to revisit the piece again and actually learn something from it....maybe its better now...

No, it doesn't make any sense that everyone cries like whiny scallopes because someone is rude.

Lee is the only one who thought about it instead of "defending" their life blood composers.

I don't care if he's rude. He just happens to be one of those people that acts like he knows what he's talking about, when he really doesn't have a clue.

lol at "defending their life blood composers"... I hardly listen to most of the composers he listed. Doesn't mean he's not anymore wrong, especially on his idea of polyphony.

Although at times the melodrama of Romantic music becomes grating, and perhaps does contain less complex polyphony than other styles, it also has unique redeeming qualities, such as it's innovating orchestration and a singular capacity for expression.

I think a better phrase would be "Maturity fail"

I am personally astounded by the amount of people in or older than my age group that think any of the following:

"ZOMG" "lolwut" "EPIC FAIL" "lolz"

etc.

are legitimate responses. Once in a very very long time they are appropriate (or when used for comedic effect in, say, a Theory class) but we are not at the point of tasteful use, we are in the "internet badass" mode, where in an attempt to impress our web-peers we bring out these over-used expressions.

I just find it disheartening that on a website geared towards younger composers that the older members act like children.

EDIT: I am not trying to be uptight, I like to have fun and goof off, but I also like to have substance in what I have to say.
