composerorganist Posted August 1, 2009 Share Posted August 1, 2009 Bachian - Your piano piece reminds of early romantic music with an occasional modern tendencies (in particular the tempo contrasts - the most effective part of the work in my opinion). Overall very cohesive and dramatic. I'd love to hear you try a more contemporary language - harmonically especially as well as expand on the tempo contrasts in your next work. Also good roulades. Only reservation I have is allowing the clarinet player to breathe - you don't offer much opportunity. Fortunately, in this piece, a very good clarinet player can easily determine spots to to catch a breathe. Just be more aware of this next time you write for clarinet. Some seemed to favor the dissonant side of the octatonic, where a few others tried to balance its dissonant nature with some stable tonality.
