What is your favorite interval?

By melodic, I mean say an instrument like the french horn playing a melody where he jumps the chosen interval. By chordal, I mean both notes being played at the same time by say a keyboard instrument.

What's your favorite interval? Mine is the major sixth in both cases; it always sends chills down my spine for some reason.

Fe-do the tri-tone dog! -- Sung to the melody of "Casper the Friendly Ghost", only sing it with an augmented fourth instead of a perfect fifth. :D

I like major 7ths for melodies and perfect fifths for chords (well, 9th, 13th as well)

The Major 10th. It is probably the most gorgeous interval played chordally. Octaves all the way for melodic.

I agree. The major 10th is a very pleasant interval, especially when played on the piano (for reasons related with harmonics, I think).

Wow, I have never thougth about such things, I dont think I can honestly say which I like best.

Perhaps I will listen to the interevals one day adn see if one sticks out as more beautiful than the others to me.

My favorite interval is the one where there's time to queue for a nice coffee and drink it at a concert before the gong sounds. The definition of a perfect interval?

Actually I like both major and minor second, perfect fifth and fourth and octave in an chord... hmm, let me see. I will pick up the perfect fifth. Striving to the equilibrium.

Interval in the melody... minor sixth and octave would be probably my most favourite to hear, although not the most used. I select the first one.

It's all about the minor sixth.

I like all the intervals, because they all have their use.

Nothing like the consonance of a perfect fifth.

Love using Tritones ^^ and am a great fan of a minor 3rd in meoldys i just cant get away from it, think Eb Minor lovely key :blush:

Enharmonicly. It isn't, however, the same on paper.

But how on earth can you even use an augmented fifth... oh wait... augmented chords. Mine would probably be the minor sixth, anyhow, if I haven't already said that.

Major 6th (or major 10th) is my favourite harmonic interval, I must see how it sounds melodicly...

I like the one-quarter interval. It rings nicely.

Mark, it's much more exciting to respell the tritone and resolve it differently. Think War Requiem, or think writing it as an augmented fourth instead of as a diminished fifth. A whole new wave of possibilities opens up :cool:
