I know that anything created by an individual has that copyright, forgot what it's called...but they have that copyright. I was just on the site, Last.fm, and was going claim the artist (which is me) and then post some music. The site says they will pay royalties if you have the "worldwide recording right." SYS65 Posted September 30, 2009 Share Posted September 30, 2009 I'm in last.fm but I have set up "Don't collect any Royalties" (or something like that) because I have no way to recieve them here .... But as far as I know, that thing you mention means that last.fm can pay you royalties as long as you are not already recieving royalties from another institution over the same music ... I better recommend you to read the FAQs in last.fm .... and if you are the artist that page is about .... claim the artist before somebody else do it. I read the FAQs, I still didn't understand what that recording right thing is though. But since last.fm is supposed to be encouraging for indie music makers, I'm going to assume I have these "worldwide recording rights" since I'm not obligated with any music producers. Thanks guys. maestrowick Posted October 5, 2009 Share Posted October 5, 2009 No they are governing bodies in America that report and receive reports of your performances and hereby handles royalties of such. (www.ascap.com, BMI.com | Welcome [ASCAP member here!]) They only typically cover USA. There are sister organizations in other countries that do the same thing and they work together (somewhat.) However, it takes a long time for those reports to come through if reported at all from international performances. Don't stay up waiting for it!
