Metal guitar tone

I did some tests with on axis and off axis, and I turned the contour from 0 - 10 in equal intervals. I kept all other knobs constant.

On axis: on axis.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

Off axis: off axis.mp3 - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

I'm not sure which sample I prefer.

What kind of metal tone are you looking for? Some styles of metal lend themselves towards different tones more than other. Just give me a little out line of what you are looking for like maybe "I want a deep chugging sound with a smooth lead tone" or "I want a harsh tone."

So you get the sound you're looking for...then what? It won't magically fall into place.

Here's the mixing template:

Mixer:

Drums - Center/90% overall - ( Bass Drum lower volume ) , ( compressed Snare higher volume ) , ( Hi-Hats higher volume ) , ( Toms medium volume ) , ( Crash higher volume )

Bass - Center/80% Volume

Rhythm Guitar - Left 22%/110% Volume

High Rhythm Guitar - Left 100%/45% Volume

High Rhythm Guitar - Right 100%/45% Volume

Melody Instrument (Solo Guitar probably) - Right 22%/80% Volume

Master Tool Thing/Aux

Maximization for Volume Wars.
