Instrumentals

I learned to play the Violin in elementary, and have played it ever since. I learned how to play the piano after I saw a Tom & Jerry episode featuring the Hungarian Rhapsody No.? By Lizst. And I can pretend to play the guitar.

I started with piano... been playing it for about 9 or so years.

When I was in marching band last year, I played keyboard (and cymbals for one big crash). I learned Xylophone, Vibraphone, and all those little mallet instruments for concert band, and I played Timpani. For the parades, I played bass drum.

This year, I played trumpet for marching and concert band, and I learned clarinet on the side.

In a nutshell:

Basically, I can play any brass except anything with a slide *cough:trombone:cough*, I can play some clarinet (not too well), piano, mallets, some percussion (I can't do snare, but I can do quads and bass... I don't know about set, never tried it), and timpani (which I kinda consider to be percussion, but not true percussion, cause it has pitches).

I never did strings (which is reflected by how horrible my strings parts is in a few of my ongoing compositions).

I know piano and flute, and can get along on trumpet, trombone, french horn, clarinet, oboe, saxophone, and voice. Pretty much all percussion, though I'm not phenomenal on timpani or snare.

I've only touched a stringed instrument one or two times. I'm looking to buy a violin, as I'm very interested in learning it.

Same, I'll start looking around when school starts back up.

Am I the only Euphoniumist here, or are their others?

Wait, is Euphoniumist even a word? I wonder...

I used to play euphonium, but haven't played one in over two years.

Euphonist?

Cool. I'm either the only or first cellist here (at least to reply). If you couldn't guess i play the cello.

*w00t* I'm pretty good at it, i think, as long as class A pieces constitute a good player. I also play the piano... which is almost needed everywhere you go.

Trumpet - The instrument I started on. I still play it in high school band, but mainly for marching, because I'm not too bad at that apparantally. Right now that's all it is to me. I own a Bach Stradivarius... in case anybody's wondering. Oh darn, my trumpet player ego still exists.

Clarinet - My second... Eventually I got tired of brass and had to try something different... Clarinet was kind of that easy choice.. It's cheap, and I loved the sound. Over time though, I kind of got bored of it. I mainly blame it on my instrument though. It's a no named brand, and can't play half of the notes I want it to. Of course that could be ME... but it IS a cheap brand that I've never heard of.

Flute - I never really learned this. My sister owns one, but eventually she gave it to me. I've never been a big flute person. But I thought it's a new instrument, so why not? I couldn't play it though, not because of my incapability, but it's because the instrument was unplayable. No wonders my sister never got anywhere in middle school band.

Alto Saxophone - Aha! Finally. Yes, it is my most recent picked up instrument (in reality). I really can't say I expected too much from it, but I soon found out that it is so much more. and as of right now, it is my favorite instrument to play. I can't say that will change either. I instantly fell in love with it. It's a shame I don't have one... or I would be playing it more.

Piano - Music Theory AP basically forced this on me... I had to learn it over the summer. I think piano's are pretty given the right song, but I'm more of a wind player.

Guitar - My dad owns one, I tried to like it, but I just couldn't get into it.

Bassoon - Worth a mention... I mean it IS my favorite instrument. I just haven't played one yet.

Hahah! Bassoon is awesome! Sooner or later, I'm GOING to get one, but for now it's just... flute, trombone, tenor sax, clarinet and piano.

Whoa, weird. My dad tryed to make ME like the guitar too. And Bassoon is MY favourite instrument. Too weird!

I play piano, violin, viola, violoncello and guitar. I also play a little oboe and very little trumpet; just enough to help my composing.

Note to the sarcastic people out there...

The oboe and trumpet are normal sizes.

How do you know he's the master of none?

(Besides, is it really necessary for everyone to be the master of an instrument?)

1. Because he's fifteen and he plays fourteen different instruments. Not everyone's a Paul Hindemith.

2. If they're performers, it's what they should always strive for.

I'm a flute and mallet percussionist. I can play snare and timpani, but I prefer not too. However, my region auditions are tomorrow, so I'm freakin' out! LOL! I'm a previous flute player. Oh! And I'm horrible at oboe, but can muster through it...

I'm in the process of learning french horn, cornet/trumpet, and piano.

Ummm, I disagree with the master of none comment. And actually I'm rather put off by it.

Relax.

It's just a saying. Also, I tend to agree with it. It's all well and good to say you "play" ( i.e. can make a somewhat pleasing sound on) these instruments, but don't get huffy when someone points out that it's virtually impossible for you to have mastered all of them - especially in such short a time span.

Perhaps a better phrase would be "Jack of all trades, master of one"? Though, I hardly expect anyone around here has mastered their instrument....

;)

My primary instruments are String bass, guitar, alto saxophone, and keyboards, but I also dabble in a handful of other instruments.

I do believe it is possible to become very good at one or two instruments (I'm not sure "master" is the word) while learning to play others proficiently. Mastering more than that, though, seems unlikely.

I'm a classical double bass major, but I'm also performably (now that's not a real word) proficient at most percussion (excluding any difficult mallet parts :P), guitar, electric bass, piano and accordian.

but double bass is slowly taking over my life, so I don't really have time to keep my chops up on the other instruments...
