Changing instruments

Recommended Posts

OK, so is the sax player doubling? Do you want both instruments on the same staff? To do that just click on the Staff Tool then highlight the section of music on the staff that you want transposed. Right-click and select Bb Clarinet Transposition. What you're doing is applying a Staff Style. I think that's all you need to do (make sure that the key signature changes). Let me know if you still have issues.

You want the alto sax to temporarily pick up a sop? Or u want to change the staff instrument for the whole piece?

If the former, like orph said, apply a staff transposition. In addition, you can set an expression to change the playback instrument to sop sax. You have to label the instrument change with an expression anyway.

If the latter, you're better off creating a new file and specifying the right instruments. Just copy and paste the music from the old document. It's a hastle to do a staff alteration.

I would have agreed with that to an extent in the past, but if you're using Finale 2011 it's not so bad to get your formatting to look proper after adding a new staff.
