Small Question About Writing Sheet Music With Accidentals

Recommended Posts

Hey,

So I am using Finale 2012 to write sheet music, and I recently came across a small presentational dilemma concerning accidentals.

This is the choice I have to make: do I use a double flat, or do I use multiple flats and naturals?

I know that when I read music, I hate trying to negotiate with double flats, but I think that the music would look very cluttered otherwise.

I hope that makes sense.

Usually, double flats are ONLY present when they are Harmonically necessary. So, stylistically, it matters. Watch this video to know if you fall into this:

If your piece is a practical piece that someone is likely to be sightreading, I can say from experience that on the organ bench I would run across your double flat, commend your immense knowledge of music theory, and curse you as I fumble my way through the measure.
