Ken320
Does anyone have any links to examples of complex 4-mallet solo marimba notation? thanks!
Morivou
A quick google search turned up some images you might find useful: http://www.mostlymarimba.com/books-a-recordings/music-books.html?page=shop.getfile&file_id=1726&product_id=873 http://www.mostlymarimba.com/books-a-recordings/music-books.html?page=shop.getfile&file_id=1598&product_id=1411 http://www.honeyrock.net/pic%2023/img2A3.jpg And, a list of recommended repertoire. http://www.bostonconservatory.edu/music/zeltsman-recommended-solo-marimba-literature It looks to me like you're going to have to do some pretty intense score study, or have some experience with the instrument. They are VERY capable instruments. And, very agile. but, they also have almost as tough colloquialisms as the guitar! haha.
Ken320
Thanks so much Morivou, those are excellent examples. I played marimba in college (before I moved on to composition) but I only used two mallets. Now I can see that the nomenclature is similar to fingering on a piano, very specific. Morivou
No problem! As always, never write for something you don't understand. If you've played marimba, and just need to see some more complex scores, use that rep link and buy/find some scores. You'll pick it up quickly. :)
