chopin Posted June 18, 2014 Share Posted June 18, 2014 I thought you guys might be interested in this opportunity: I work for OperaUpClose, an award-winning opera company based at the King’s Head Theatre in Islington in London. I wanted to let you know that submissions for Flourish, a new opera competition which we launched in association with Eclectic Opera, are now open, and I was hoping you might be able to circulate some information to your composition students and members of your establishment you believe might be interested. Flourish, now in its third year, aims to provide a platform for emerging and established composers and librettists, and to raise awareness of the wealth of contemporary opera being written.Composers and librettists are invited to submit up to 20 minutes worth of material of a new opera for up to seven performers. The first stage of the competition culminates in a showcase of extracts from up to five short-listed operas at the King's Head Theatre on Sunday 21 September 2014. The deadline for submissions is midnight on Sunday 17 August 2014.A panel of industry judges will choose a winner from the short-listed operas.
