Proposal To Teach You Music Theory For Free

Recommended Posts

So I am, hopefully, in my final year of my doctorate degree. Aside from my dissertation, I have to take a qualifying exam that covers almost everything I have learned in college from my Freshmen year to now. One of the best methods for me to refresh and study for such an exam is to actually teach the material, so heres my offer comes in:

I would like to teach a free course in either Music Theory to a class of my fellow composers that are wanting to learn about one of these topics.

The course will start with the very basics and move up to at least counter point and roman numeral analysis, possibly even form.

The format, though I am still working on, will be a mix of video lectures, one-on-one Q&As, group discussions in some format, and homework assignments that can be done or submitted online. I will provide all materials for the course.

The ideal student for this would be someone who has little to know music theory knowledge but would like to learn. The class for the most part will be a short class with a slight work at your own pace feel.

As I said, the class will be free, I only ask for feedback on how well I taught the course, if you learned anything, or what I could improve upon.

Let me know if you are interested here in this thread. I would ideally like to have at least 5 students if possible. If I get that many, I will go ahead and begin creating the course.

Let me know what you think.

Yo! I think I can do it. I mean, it's online, right? Well, what exactly is the skill level? I mean, I'm not College Level, but I know a good amount of music theory, however I'm looking to get better. Let me know! I'd be happy to participate

P.S. I don't have any contact info out, but send info to my site profile. I will check it frequently.

It is online, Im setting up the website where the course will be. Your skill level is just fine for the course. You will, however might find some of the lessons repetitive or easy, since Im starting the lessons from the VERY beginning, but after a while it will get harder.

Ill send you all a link eventually on here or what ever email you send me to the course site, updates will be posted here though.

Hope y'all are finding the page easy to manage and the lessons are working correctly for you all. Im going to try to post two lessons a week at the very least. These first few lessons will be rather easy for many of you, but for some it might be the first time you are learning these things.

Update:

I am posting the first lesson on Chords. Its about to get really hard really quick for some of y'all. Please take your time and ask questions if you have any.

Also, I need to know if everyone has scanning capabilities, I need to know because we are about to start analyzing music soon and I need to know if I need to figure something out for everyone to do the assignments.
