Fugato Catastropho

Because of the recent fugue submissions I thought I would pull this one out of the closet and dust it off. It needed a good bit of revising, so I'm a bit late in posting since I haven't had much free time in recent weeks. I'm sure it needs more than just a bit of revising, so I hope you are not too harsh as I don't come from a classical background (more of an R&B, blues & jazz background) but am here to learn so I do welcome any comments you can give. I used Sibelius 7 and there are moments when the ensemble is not as tight as one would've hoped from such an expensive program, but it is what it is. Thanks in advance.

Hi

I don't know your background, but this sounds pretty classic.

This doesn't mean I don't like it, although I'm more into introducing other harmonies ... Why don't you try a fugue in a jazzy style? I'm trying to do an atonal one.

It's surprising how you keep the interest on melodic lines, I guess it is because, as a good "fuguist" you go back over and over to the main theme.

I also like string quartett for fugues. The sound is not bad. I think strings are quite difficult to reproduce in vst (as human voice).

Thanks, Luis. Glad you liked it.

It sounds like a good fugue to me. Anyone who takes the time to learn this sort of counterpoint deserves a tip of the hat. What sort of revisions do you think it needs?

Thank you, Ken. When you work on something for a while, especially trying to rework an older piece, sometimes it's hard to know when you're finished. And in this case I was left with the nagging feeling that I might have missed some errors somewhere. Good that you did not find it so. I always feel a bit shy because there are so many in this forum far more skilled than I. Thanks for listening.
