Having problems with a musical period for my first sonata

Recommended Posts

So i am new here and right now i am attempting to write a sonata (my first one ever) but i am having a bit trouble with the beginning.  I have decided to use a period at the start of the sonata but the problem is the antecedent doesn't end on a note from the dominant chord but i don't want change it either because it works so well. Is there any way to make it work with the dominant without changing the antecedent itself? Or is there a chord that can be substituted with the dominant? I just want some help here.

Yes, it would help to see the score.

There are many ways to find a solution. In a typical period of two phrases, assuming you are in a tonal environment, the second can be in the dominant, but also in the subdominant, or in other tonality, even in the same tonic.

Also, surely you can insert a passing chord to the dominant...

Maybe the vii˚7 chord could work. If the note really isn't anywhere in the dominant chord, the vii˚7, the IV, or like Luis said, a passing or even a secondary dominant to foster it would help.
