Violin Concerto - II

Recommended Posts

A while back I posted the first movement of this concerto. This is the obligatory slow movement of it, and I think it flows better than the first movement. A lot of inspiration was taken from the Barber violin concerto, and was written kind of a while ago, because I was obsessed with that piece for while; haha.

It's wonderful! the general tone is dreamy, a bit sad. The parts are well defined (with tonalities, too). I like a lot how the material is in progress till the tutti in 5:00 and again at 7:00 aprox.

I also like how you use that simple but effective motive (black + triplet) changing it from the violin to the piano and back.

I think it has all the elements for a good slow romantic movement. It's coherent, beautiful melodies, and interesting. Very nice!

Thank you very much! The third movement is kind of a joke movement at the tempo I marked it at so I don't know if I'll be posting that one. :D

This is a good slow movement. You have nice melodies, and the structure is solid (compared to the first movement where the sections were more jarring). I can hear and see the Barber influence, but thankfully you added your own language and not just straight up imitate.

My only complaint is that its a little too monotonous in terms of harmony and chord progression. Also, some of the tutti passages (mostly bar 88), while they sound lovely, seem a bit melodramatic...but maybe thats just me.

Thanks again for commenting; hm, I can see what you mean with the progressions. Perhaps I was just too focused on the melodies.
