Jazz Impromptu in A flat

A re-upload of a short piano piece I wrote several months ago.  I'm thinking of trying to write more pieces in something like this style.  Any comments would be appreciated.

Alright so:

1. You know how in 4/4 the beaming splits the 8th notes in 4? Like there's two sets of four eighth notes beamed together? If you have the inner two eighth notes as a part of those four, you want to use a quarter note instead of a tied eighth note figure; this is not the same when it is beamed over those 2 beats. Measure 3 is a great example. The first tie you use is correct because it beams over the big beat. The second tie you use is not because it's in the middle of the 2nd beaming figure; use a quarter note.
2. I'm not really sure why you have so many half step intervals in this piece. It seems very out of place and I get taken out of it while listening whenever it happens. 

Other than that, it sounds rather nice. You have a pretty good idea going through it.

It's propulsive, bold and imaginative. You've got Broadway and Bach sort of mixed together. I like the little "Tea For Two" ending. Please post more in this vein. I agree with Monarcheon about the syncopation. Eighths and quarters together would be more readable.

Thanks for your comments!  I've seen different conventions used as far as tied eighths vs. syncopated quarters, and I wasn't sure what's preferred.  I'll write those differently in the future.  Monarcheon, can you point out a measure number where the half-steps that you don't like appear?  Perhaps you mean the little repeated figure that appears, for instance, right at the end of the piece?

I'm now remembering how fun this piece was to write, so I think I will indeed try writing some more like it.
