Soliloquy for Viola No. 6

This is my 6th soliloquy for viola. I got inspired to compose it after reading of a call for solo viola pieces. I listened to some viola solos, including my own 5th soliloquy, to see if I would be inspired with anything. And sure enough, I was suddenly inspired and quickly wrote down the start of this short soliloquy and completed it in one sitting.

Here is the link to my 5th soliloquy for viola:

This one is awesome and really suite the Viola's mellow tone with it's somewhat mysterious, lurking sound. I wish the 7/4-10/4 would have kept going on, it really grabbed me. I would also throw a repeat in before the last two measures if I were performing this. Your pieces always leave me wanting more (in a good way).

I am curious as well about the interesting choice with regards to time signatures. Was there any particular reason behind them? They must have been intentional considering how many different time signatures there are and how frequent it changes.

Thanks everyone for your reviews. I am glad that you have liked this piece! Concerning the time signatures, I tried to divide the piece into the measures that it seemed to most naturally fall into. And since 7/4 and 11/4 are prime numbers, they cannot be subdivided expect to an interchanging 4-3/4 or 5-6/4 (or 3-3-3-2/4).

This is a very nice piece! I've attached a recording of me kinda playing around with it (intonation still needs working...) One advice I would give you is since you have these unusual time sigs. you should place courtesy accidentals on some of the notes...it threw me off a little.

Thanks a lot Danish, both for your opinion about the piece as well as your recording of it which I enjoyed a lot. Feel free to add courtesy accidentals wherever you feel would be appropriate. And I look forward to a future recording after you have mastered it!

I really like it! One of the best and most focused works you've done. Worthy of performance.

I spent a little time thinking of subdivisions, and I think I would have divided the 11/4 and 10/4 measures into 4/4+7/4 and 4/4+6/4 respectively, but I understand its your music and you may feel the pulse differently from an outside listener. In any case, this is really well done.
