I'm sorry but I find this quote rather amusing considering it's coming from someone who enjoys and writes metal.

way to make a completely useless comment, congratulations. i have no idea what you tried to say, maybe you should explain yourself some more..

princess mononoke's ost is awesome indeed. what do you guys think of his older ghibli stuff, like the nausicaa soundtrack? the synths and 80s drums totally turn me off but on the other hand it works so well when i'm watching the movie.

I'm not entirely sure why I should given that you just implied that I'm an idiot and made a rather unneccesary comment about my girlfriend. I really don't care much for your demeanor. But alright...

I just find it kinda hypocritical to call for more subtlelty and claim that Americans "over-do" music when you listen to one of the most over-the-top and over-done musical genres on the planet. Yes, I know that's kind of a generalization but...I've heard your music. I'm not a metal hater and it's not that I really disagree with you. I just find it amusing in the same way that I'd find it amusing if a serial killer said Charles Manson was a bad person.

And just so I'm not completly derailing this thread, the only movie I've actually seen with a Hisaishi score is Spirited Away and I rather liked both the movie and score.

oh i forgot metal music originated in america, that's new to me. secondly, most of the metal bands i listen to (if not all) are from another country than america (canada, australia, scandinavia, etc. etc.), that aside.

my comment was about american film-music being greatly overdone these days. i was referring to OST's, and to OST's only, i have no idea why you replied with: "I'm sorry but I find this quote rather amusing considering it's coming from someone who enjoys and writes metal."

so, reading your statement i understand that i can't have an opinion about something without taken into account i listen to metal also?

that's lame.

and yes, spirited away is a very good movie with an awesome soundtrack, but i feel that people seem to forget about the other ghibli gems made before and after spirited away.

I'm not sure where I said in my post that metal originated in America but if I at all implied it, then I'm sorry for the misdirection. There is no definite way to pin-point where metal originated (since "metal" is one of the most poorly defined music genres out there) but I believe it started in England.

Anyway, in the interest of not de-railing this thread any further, I'd rather not discuss this anymore. I actually do agree that Hollywood blockbusters can over-do it at times (Though one of my favorite film scores of all times, LOTR, is rather over-the-top). It's even more so true of American videogame music as opposed to its Japanese counterpart. But that's a topic for a different thread.
