Andante con moto

Recommended Posts

At first, I really love the theme. It sounds very romantic.

I should not use the A-B-A form, it may then become a bit too repetitive. I would say compose a theme (already done) and variations for orchestra!

The theme is very original and recognizable and it can be developed in many different ways.

I feel that this can just be the beginning of a Symphony's of Concerto's second movement.

Good luck!

I would recommend using sonata form in the long short run within its own expositional factor, or go ahead and play with the harmonic qualities. I love themes that repeat the bass line motive within itself because you can really mess with audience's perspectives and really set moods. For example, you have the first climb end in I, and the second in V. Imagine if you ended on a VI∆7 with the B on top or even a ivm9 with the B on top, or even make the B a Bb sometimes. Repeated motives are perfect for developing and you have a good one to do so. The theme becomes less memorable as it goes on since it doesn't play with a repetitive motive as much, but add some homophony to it (as opposed to counterpoint, since that would obscure it unless the harmonic development is subtle) and see what comes out.

This could also be a candidate for a passacaglia-like treatment, repeating the harmonic foundation while developing the theme melodically over it. Dido's Lament is a gem of an example:

I just love the way Purcell spans the vocal phrases across the repeated bass line starting with "remember me". Very simple but very hip writing.
