Dear Friends,

Yesterday I finished a piano composition. Here I post it to get some feedback. I hope you enjoy it. I'm not sure if there are too much repititions and transitions are smooth enough.

I love it!
The music sounds minimalistic and I feel very relaxed after having listened to it. One of the more important characteristics of minimal music is repetition and although you do not change the rhythm in the bass line very much, the piece remains quite interesting (see second point of my feedback). In my opinion, the transitions were smooth enough.

Check out this masterpiece of Philip Glass:

Some feedback based on your YouTube video:

  • 1:50: B in the left hand vs. Bb in the right hand. This minor second sounds awful to me.
  • Although there already is a nice variation due to change the melodies, there can be more contrast. I hear no dynamic differences, so you should definitely experiment with that.
    • At the end, where the melody ascends, you could try to add a big crescendo to give the line more power.

Well done! I would love to hear more!

Maarten

First of all, your Youtube video is wrong. You have it transposed up a half step.
At around 0:08, the minor sixth over the tonic pedal is a little strange.
0:24; V7/IV chord has a D# in it which is strange too.
Around the one minute mark, you have a pedal perfect fourth above D major which to me was the biggest issue because it doesn't resolve. It happens later too.
@Maarten Bauer's comments on 1:50 are spot on for me too. V vs. v chord is really jarring. Which could be an excellent musical statement, it just stands out a lot compared to the rest.
The rest of the piece follows the same kind of thing.
Anyway, I think your progressions are great; borrowed chords are a great way to move away from tonal centers, and you do it well. Dynamics would be good too, but MIDI is awful, so I think any sane performer would understand what's going on.
Cheers---

Hello @Maarten Bauer

Thanks for your enlightening comments. I'm glad that you liked it. I'd also consider your feedbacks when I revise the track.

Dear @Monarcheon

You are right, I transposed the song! I admire your ears, I wish I had your ears :).  I also thank for your comments, I find them quite educative and professional. You are a great reviewer.
