  1. 1. I think it would be a useful addition to the forum.

  2. 2. I would like to help. (Yes: send me a personal message).

I know nothing about editing, but maybe it could have articles about advice and techniques, or maybe catalogues of compositions, perhaps a list of works from each month by composer? It sounds really exciting!

Thank you for your reply!

There is going to be an informative article about the saxophone (technique) by me. Moreover some other people have said that they would like to write a theory based article.

I am not sure about the composition list. Would it add something to the magazine? It seems like a lot work, since there are many composers and many works.

Sorry, my mistake! 2 pages for the 'best pieces' in catagories.

At least, I can add you to our team.

@Monarcheon , would you mind to organise this topic in the magazine? By the way, you have not answered my personal message about the magazine.

Sorry! Two jobs and school :happytears: I will respond asap.
As for the "best works" section, I'll try to design a little bit better way to feature pieces and will let you know here or on messenger.

  • Thanks 1

While I definitely approve of this in principle, I am concerned about how ambitious it seems to be. 32 pages of content is quite a bit! I wonder if it might be more propitious to use a rolling-article system instead, where different contributors could release new articles as and when it suits.

I would be happy to contribute an article, once it is clear which area needs more contributors, and to edit in general. I could do with the practice. However, it must be said that I'll be very busy with work until late next month, and even more so once I start what the Americans call 'grad school'.

I have the same feelings, because from now there is only one page actually finished, which is made by myself. I will ask the editors in the YCM staff group if they are able to write an article in circa one month. If not, I will give them a page in (one of the) the following magazine(s). Deadline may still be useful to get people writing. When they do not have the time, they can help in the next magazine and they may already write for the next magazine while the current is not finished yet. What do you think?

At the moment, there is a large amount of informative articles opposed to a few community articles. I would appreciate it if you could write a community related article. So in your situation, if I set the deadline in one month you are able to contribute an article. I still have to think about the deadline (that can be moved forward and backward if needed).

Anyway, I send you a message with how to join the staff in Jilster, regardless you are an editor or not.

Years ago (almost a decade), many of us older members came together to save a dying YC forum. I stepped into an administrator role and aided in saving this forum -and I must say, its nice to see the community up and going strong again.

In the years since I stepped away from YC, I've begun to develop my own business skills (I own a cleaning company and have just launched my second business -an online radio station dedicated to the promotion of new music). I have several articles still in the wiki and all my old posts are in the archives (which is nice to read back on).

I would be very interested in assisting with the magazine and might even follow suit to create a magazine for my new radio station. Just let me know what you need and I will do my best to meet it!

I am glad and thankful to you that you have helped to save this amazing forum.

As a relatively new member, I do not know how it was further than one year ago, but I do see that the community is growing, which is very positive!

Theory based articles are already present and I think there is need for more community articles. If you would like to make an advertisement, you can do that too. Just send me a personal message and I give you more information.

Thanks again!

Maarten

It was in a pretty bad spot back then. We just switched to a new design. Members left cause the old YC was different than the new. Chopin (Mike) had done an awesome job of developing the new forum design -but people would bicker over the littlest things, but not really provide their voice or know how to improve things. It even got to the point where people would complain about music being uploaded. I'm sure Mike can feel everyone in on the history better.

I already heard a sort of same story from Chopin. It is great to see that the forum grows and that older members come back!

This is an amazing idea. You guys have suggested great magazine ideas. Here's my thoughts:

1. Music-related informative articles and site history sound like great ideas.

2. In terms of selecting compositions to be featured, first of all, the composer must give their consent for their work to be published. Then, we can have all YC members vote on the works that can be published. The top # works with the most likes could be the ones chosen for publishing. Completed collaborative works should always be published, since they're extra special, unless a collaboration contributor doesn't allow it. I am willing to help judge compositions.

3. We can publish all member advertisements, announcements, masterclass announcements and competitions with permission.

4. We can publish the list of winners of each competition.

Thanks for your thoughts. I agree with all your points.

Do you want to contribute an article too? Then you should read the topic in this same YCM section. https://www.youngcomposers.com/t35324/sign-up-young-composers-magazine/

No, I am not interested in contributing an article, though I can help select compositions for the magazine.
