Overcoming the Storm

Recommended Posts

I decided to try something a little different and try to go from a dark/sinister feel to a more triumphant/positive feel.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

The space you created in the first part is great. The brass in the beginning of the second section sound a bit artificial, I think that it's the lack of difference in the attack that makes it a bit copy/paste like. The transition overall is nice, the conservation of rhythms help to keep it coherent but I would personally try to make the transition harmonic as well (without that space with only the drumbeat and sustained sounds) which would allow the rhythm to vary a little bit more and maybe add more diversity to the whole (it also depends on what you were trying to picture so it's mostly personal). I could imagine a lot of movie situations where such a change would be suitable. I like it overall.

@Krys K.

Thanks for the input,

Some others have had similar thoughts on the brass section you mentioned, I think I'll try and play around with the EQ and dynamics a bit to try and remedy that.

I also experimented with dropping the sound as you mentioned but to my ear it sounded a bit 'flat' or 'empty' after the first section without it so I decided to keep it in, just reduced in volume a bit.

I'm glad you enjoyed it,

thanks again!

Good job overall. The intro at the beginning felt a bit too long. Varying the percussion line and the rhythmic atmosphere would be nice.

The intro is for me too long, but has nice athmosphere in this. After that, when brass ostinato comes in and legato strings - it's too far away (I mean - all is in big reeverb and has bad balance with main melody. This seems a little bit chaotic). But i like this simple structure and melody - works well and achieves good sense of a story. Has a good feeling with overcoming storm and in the end only this sense of story matters :)
Good luck!
