My pieces for piano

Hi all!

I am new here and I would like some feedback and opinions over these pieces I composed. I am not a pro, I havent studied music, but I have learnt by myself a lot by investigating in several places through the years. I am planning to study musical composition the next year, I hope this become true, as I am sure it would help me a lot.

I have detected some things to improve in my next pieces but I would like to know your opinion first (I usually dont correct what is already finished, but instead I use that knowledge in the next music to be created).

Hope you like them.

Rgds,

Ricardo

1. Interesting chord changes you have in there. However, because of the style you're working with, some of the cross relations you have written down sound a bit off. and since they're technically longer than the 16th note figure you have, they don't sound like normal non-harmonic tones. The other thing I'd say is that the melody line jumps around a lot, making it seem like a polyphonic exercise rather than a work of art music. The modulation at the end worked nicely, but is a little bit of an odd departure from the home key.
2. The chord structure was better on this one, though the melody issue, while mitigated, still seemed a bit present. From an audience's perspective (rather than an analytical one), it becomes harder to latch onto something as a strict motif, but you handle it alright for the most part.

I find these pieces to be quite etude-like, especially the first one. I tend to agree with @Monarcheon on most points. I have also noticed some potentially unintended dissonances as well as some less-than-optimal harmonies.

Hello Ilv,

Thanks for commenting. What do you mean wityh "less-than-optimal harmonies"?, you mean that I picked a wrong chord? (if yes, which one do you mean?), or is it because of the cross relations that cause issues?.

The cross relation thing is because I do not play the piano, nor I have studied music, so first I lose visibility while working with midi notes sometimes (sometimes they are mistakes), and also i need to work over my earing over those small details. I am on it actually now. I think I am good in the ideas (the main thing), but I need more technical skills (which i am improving now,). The Theme para Piano 1 was intended to be a very nervious piece, my concept of something "nervious" is something that should be moving all the time with the right chords to give that effect, maybe the idea wasnt expressed very well (although, apart from the technical things, not sure how I would improve it actually from that point of view). Maybe it was a kind of etude actually, as I was also trying to improve my counterpoint, but the result was desired.

Appreciated, thanks :)

Ahh ok, cross relation issue then. The way i am using now is listening, closing my eyes and "feel" that wrong thing. I guess you have other methods. Maybe reading music in a sheet would help a lot for the visibility, but I need a lot of time to achieve that. Hope in 2 or 3 years to have this already dominated. Thanks!.
