Waltz (orchestral)

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I composed this waltz time ago (second in my life). It doesnt have the classical or a common structure, I just invented one as the theme was advancing and resulting. It is inspired on popular and classical music (the structure is more popular music as well as how the decisions on how the harmony and melody were going to interact). I just want to share as this theme was composed before I learned a lot of new things, so I can see a lot of failures, nevertheless, I like the melodies and harmony. Maybe somebody likes it.

The polyphony in this piece is absurd at first. Crossed timbres and crossed voices make it kind of hard to keep track of what's most important, especially in the beginning. This feeling dropped as the piece went along and you seemed to get more comfortable with the structure.
The chord progression's normal, yes, but what standard waltz isn't? Mine follow the same way.
In the last part of the phrase the second inversion iv chord starting the phrase was interesting, but a little confusing. You could define it for sure once to maximize that effect. :)
Nice, overall.

Thanks for the feedback. Appreciated, and very useful (I usually apply things to next compositions as I have several pending ideas).

i composed this piece before learning a lot of new stuff (it was crazy how much I learned after checking some tutorials I got borrowed). So I hope to apply all of this (considering your advises of course) to my next one. It may be a good idea to compose a new one, but way better and this time maybe more classical, with theme + development of the idea, etc.

Usually I hear a lot of popular music and this piece was made under that understanding of music at that moment (specially metal)

Rgds,

Ricardo

I really love it! It's really catchy, makes me feel totally involved in it! How did you produce it? What vst did you use, I mean. The only thing I could suggest is reduce voice overlaying in the first part...Anyway, great job!

hi mate, sorry i didnt see this before :D (I forgot I put a piece here LOL)

I used Albion for the strings, the violin is Bohemian Violin (simply beautiful sounding). The clarinet is a solo downloable instrument from Vienna Symphonic Library. The percussion is from VSL too... and the woodwinds from Orchestral Tools (Berlin Woodwinds).  The production was succesful in most of it because of the sound of the libraries, they sound splendid, specially Spitfire and Orchestral Tools. I just wanted a kind of "discussion" between instruments, and that they had something to say somehow.

Thanks for your feedback and appreciation :)
