"Valley of eternal autumn" - Composition by me

Viktor

Recommended Posts

Hello friends, i'v been away and busy so long time i have not posted anything. I have created a peace, that i had in mind to be a compilation of seasons (something like Vivaldi 4 seasons), but will see in time.
This is the first "autumn" and i think i have developed something that needs a lot of work. For now i think its finished but percussions would be nice to be included also.
I use FL Studios ( you can check my profile and see that i dont provide music sheet) AND sorry for that! But ill try to write it down in time and provide you if must be. (i am learning to write music so... bare with me on that) :D
Please correct me, give me advice, tell me whats bad, whats incorrect and most of all tell me what you guys think of this :) Cheeeers!!

p,s my main inspirations are movies/games soundtracks, so dont be judgemental on some parts if are used :DValley of eternal Fall.mp3Valley of eternal Fall.mp3

Okay, so...

1. My main inspiration comes from soundtracks as well. What are your favourite ones?

The piece does sound like a soundtrack, I think it could fit very well in some village in a fantasy computer game.

2. I liked the bass flute. I really like this instrument and for some reason don't tend to use it that much. It gives a good feeling of a distant ancient culture or something.

3. I'd like to see a music sheet of this one (although you said you don't have a notation program), I think I could help more if you uploaded one. You can download Musescore, I think it's free.

Great job anyway, it reminds me of something I composed about hald a year ago (where I actually used a bit of bass flute) it's really simple but I hope you'll like it.

I'll attach it to this comment if I'll be able to find it.

Would like to hear more from you in the future :)

Btw, there were those three familiar chords from the beggining of the Fellowship Theme... do you listen to the Lord of the Rings soundtrack?

Maybe I'm wrong, idk XD

YES! i love medieval times, medieval genres, films, games etc etc... I genuinely wake up with Haward's Shore composition of LOTR....

Thanks for your kind words Sir!

I just found out that FL studios provides an option to transpose my work in a sheet.... but i think it has a lot of mistakes. I dont know if you read my profile or not (or maybe havent uploaded that info), but im not a musician, i have little knowledge of theory and stuff... but NON of writing so.. ill upload them now and tell me what you think :)

Cheers again!

By the way, sorry i didnt comment on your peace... i love it. Like i said, it reminds me of an tavern in the middle of a forest that separates 2 distant cities.... ^_^

I love it, it should be longer and it should be full with ensemble :D

Cheers!

@Viktor

I read your comments now.

Glad there's someone else other than me that likes soundtracks, especially lotr (you can look at my favourite composers list in my profile and see that Howard Shore is there).

Your knowledge in music doesn't really matter (in my opinion) I don't know much about music, but I learned through work.

The way you notate doesn't really matter to me as long as I can read and understand the notes. If you want I can tell you if something in the notation is wrong.

About continuing my piece... I didn't make it longer but I made a version where the violins (that are in the background in this piece) are the main melody.

Thanks for trying to find what it describes, by the way, I like when people do that :)

I'll attach it to this comment so you can listen.

I'll look at your music sheets soon.

@Rabbival507 I listend to "Old World Music2" and i see it as a "culmination" part.. like the first one should be light - intro, and this (may be with more strings in it) to be the part right after the first part. Youll need last so called ending part in this, and you Sir have a great composition ^_^ i really like it.

I will provide you with midi file (if i can, ill check in a bit) and send you here :D Thanks for your time and PLEASE tell me what you think of the sheet and the midi file and everything (theoretically speaking) i want this to be as "professional" as it can be cause i want to show it to a professor of mine. Tell me what to do and what to change

Plus what do you think, should i add percusiones to the composition or leave it like it is? :)

Cheers and i like your stile. We can chat to eternity on subjects like LOTR, games like Gothic, ElderScrolls etc etc etc :D

Hey,

You got some nice progressions going on. I do wanna point out that there are a lot of edgy/overly dominant mid-frequencies. Between 200Hz and 1kHz. I think this piece has a lot of potential if it's mixed properly. Especially woodwind & flute type instruments have a tendency to zoom a lot in their raw synth/recorded form so I would strongly recommend to start EQing. The piece has a nice feel so it would be a shame if the mix isn't balanced!

peace

Hey man. Equalizing is a must for electronic production. It is one of the biggest, if not the biggest aspect of mixing and balancing. It's all about training your ear. The more you do it the more familiar you become with sound; how it resonates, what to look for, how to get rid of disturbances etc etc.

It's about experimenting, getting familiar with the hearable Hz's, and knowing how your equalizer works. A proper mix is a mix that can be played loudly without disturbances/edges - but keeping a profound or powerful appearance.

It's also about testing your sound on a variety of speakers/headphones etc, for reflective purposes. A good mix reacts well on most sound systems.

For a part equalizing is taste. But there are certainly guidelines that everyone follows to get stuff done.

I have blogged about the basics of mixing/balancing. If you're new to this all, have a look (it's mainly written for starters). The following episode is about equalizing (I am not aware of any rules against linking on this forum, if so, my apologies):

From a quick look at the score:

*Pizzicato is "Pizz."

*Try not to have alot of small breaks, make them a large one.

*I saw you wrote you have no modulations... I think it's necessary here.

I wonder how you can get a modulation option.

Oh wait. Did you know that one of the sites Admins is developing a notation software BY HIMSELF???

You should give it a try. I have problems with it cause I've been composing with another software for many years,

but you should use it. Talk to him about it, he's a really nice guy and he sat with me through any trouble I had with it, and gave me a full detailed explaination of how to use it that I can send you.

His username is "Chopin", talk to him about the software.

Good luck.

*This program will also let you work on a project with other people, and it'll be saved on a server so if, for example, your computer crashes while you compose it still exists.
