Final Boss Music

My friend is making a fantasy themed Broforce-like game,

yet when I gave him fantasy tracks he said its lame, and that he wants real music.

I wanted to impress him with this piece I made as a final boss battle that is  a mix of the two other boss battles and the victory theme.

Woulod like to hear your feedback.

 

*It's made of opening, loop, and ending+victory, you don't have to listen to every single part, the loop is the important one.

I think all three tracks evoke the sound of shareware games of yore quite nicely. The ending could be a bit more uplifting,  but I do not know the backstory. The melodies (in the strings etc) in the loop seem to be a bit disconnected and do not match well. Also, they seem to convey different moods what is not what you want in a loop. I would recommend to lengthen the loop a bit so that better players won't get bored, and to achieve variety not by many different melodies, but through variations of the same basic building blocks. But take this with a grain of salt as I have never written tracks for computer games.

Well, you got the idea of it. It's basically not having the player bored with quite a short track.

They said that a common battle is going to be around 3 minutes, so having these three melodys one after the other

(and not mashed together, so every common man can hear that they're there and remember what I want him to remember).

The game is pretty short and plot less, it's just a final project where they're trying to make a good LAN.

I'm uploading the tracks that this one is suppose to make the players remember.

Golems is the first track to have brass and heavy drums,

Dragoons is the first track to have synth and rock drum kits and electric guitar.

Droids, the final one, is the first (and only) track to have choir, and is mixing the previous one with all the special instruments and the victory theme.

Btw, with this game I thought of the closest game I know to this one.

Well, it's fantasy themed but is also modern and can include any kind of instrument.

So I chose to base my work on FFXV (not very much, but if there's a base for it its there), which has alot of piano in it.

Here I only put Piano (and solo Contrabass) in the boss parts, but I wanted it to be heard, especially at the Dragoons and Droids.

 

Btw, do you think that the refernces to these two boss battles (and the victory theme) in the Droids boss battle are clear enough for the common man?

Golem is great. Dragoon is fine, but a bit disorienting when the first guitar solo comes up. The last segment is a real change of mood, like the player has some time to breathe.

Victory sounds exactly like one expects it to sound, with brass and so forth. One doesn’t recognize the reference immediately, but I don’t think that’s a problem. Your friends should be happy to have such a soundtrack composer in their ranks.

I'm trying to give the players ears some rest, so they won't get tired quickly. There's no such a part in GOlems because it's a short fight.

Btw, that's the reason for the mood changes in the Droids.

The guitar solo intends to give a bit of a shock when it comes in. So do the heavy brass instruments in Golems.

Basically before Golems the soundtrack is made of light percussion and thats it, when the brass comes in it shocks... like the boss fight itself I guess.

Then I add Electroincs and then Choir at the final fight. After each boss fight the next normal background music includes the new instruments in it, with the others it has before.

Sorry if this post has no real point, I'm after a difficult math test and can't really think right now.

You're the one who needs to teach me, not the other way around. XD

I used two drum kits (rock and electronic) and put solo delay for each one, so it's like there are four drumers.

Other than that I used big EWQL marching drums from the Hollywood Orchestra.

If you mean the rythm- it's 15/8 (7/8 then 8/8 or if you like- 2,2,3,2,2,2,2... I think. I don't remeber the exact order),

Golems is perfect. Really nice sound that honors the title.

Dragoons is fine and I like the guitar intro...but the guitar after the intro felt a bit disconnected but the feeling didn't last. Once it turned around, every felt good again. 

Victory is fine but it's a little tough to tell if it's a victory theme when it starts. But as it goes on it begins to click so I like it.

He didn't say that about this soundtrack- this is the new one.

The old one was mainly made of celtic music, and he said he wanted something more modern.

Yes, I know that some things really doesn't fit well, I'm still working on it, which is why I uploaded it (I wanted to get feedback so I'd be able to know how to improve the pieces).

The soundtrack comes to be a mix of modern kinds of music (like rock and pop) and also older ones (not much though, I'd put there some more of that but he said I should focus on modern).

Also it trys not to be boring and to be understood differently by people with different levels of knowledge in music (from "I don't know much about music but I guess that was fine" to "OMG! you used the theme form the opening music here and there and the other theme with the first theme's instrument and piano and contrabass only appear in boss fights etc.")

I just kept in mind that it should be short and yet people should be able to listen to it many times, so it should be intresting and include several moods in it.

I can actually remove the electric guitar like everyone here said but... I guess then it wouldn't have the same shocking effect it has now.

It's a very short game (a final project for a computer programing school). So, think about it- people would play around ten or twelve minutes without a single electric sound and then suddenly it comes in and everyone is shocked. Idk though, if it doesn't fit well... I need to think about it.

I definitely wouldn't remove the electric guitar because the sound itself really fits the other instruments what I would do is keep the intro but see about switching up the guitar part that came after the intro.

Always keep in mind that opinions and suggestion are based on outside perspective. Listening to advice is fine, but remember you too have your own style and if you like what you have then keep it.

Ok, I'm considering that at this moment.

I think I'll create a version without the guitar in the piano part and what sounds better.
