New epic boss battle theme

Recommended Posts

I tried combining Hans Zimmer's style with Sawano Hiroyuki's for this one.
The theme surrounds itself around battling an Efreet (or Ifrit), i.e. an evil spirit.

This is, for now, still a work in progress I'm stuck on unfortunately. But please let me know what you guys think of it :)

EDIT:
It's finished!

Wow! This is amazing. The buildup was fantastic introducing themes and then reincorporating them in the final section, very nice. The climax was on point when the percussions came in, definitely had me on the edge of my seat. The only criticism I had was around the 0:40 mark, which I guess is the calm before the storm, felt a little out of place - especially the strings playing one note at the high register. Overall great work!

PS I did hear Han's influence, particularly 160BPM but I was able to figure out Sawano's part. Is there a part in particular?

Thank you for your kind words, Sepharite.
Yes, Sawano's influence can be heard in the climax. I based it accordingly to RAOKIMERATERESIA; at 0:27 in particular.
How would you recommend changing the part at 0:40 with the high strings? I was told by one dude to make them brighter, so I did.

I'm willing to bend over backwards for this one :)

It sounds really good! Listening to a this while fighting a boss would be so awesome.

(You're welcome to listen to my boss battle btw XD it's not the same kind of boss though, the one I wrote to is 2d pixel not-that-scary-or-epic-boss)

What choir and percussion library did you use for this one?

I wonder... how can you make an Ifrit boss battle without listening to "Hellfire" first? XD

There you go:

Wow, this is overwhelmingly intense. I can imagine fighting Ifrit would be terribly scary while listening to this. All the instruments, percussion, and choir were all nicely done as well. Congraduations.

EWQL Choirs is, in my opinion, the BEST choir VST software I've ever heard in my entire life. Unfortunately the sheer size of the gigabites are way too huge for my computer.

10/10

What the hell?! Seriously?

I wholeheartedly disagree :D

I came to that conclusion by getting into a battle in FFXV and I had the original Hellfire play during the confrontation, then afterwards I had your version play. And your version made the battles feel more epic...so yeah.

Ever thought about composing for mainstream video games?

In my opinion your version induces certain feelings that can make a player stand on their toes when in a boss battle. Feelings that consist of fear, hopelessness, creepiness, and that feeling you get when you know you're going to die but you won't go down without swinging. I mean, you just created a VERY good piece, just accept the fact bro lol. To be honest, I think your piece should be Ifrits' main theme instead of the one they have on the FFXV soundtrack. That's just my opinion. So yes, regarding Hellfire, you actually outdid Yoko Shimomura.

Seriously, watch this battle with Ifrit, mute it, and have your version play over it...it fits so perfectly:

I think that @saigen's version is great, and yet Yoko Shimomura's version is better.

Guess that's because @saigen couldn't do any theme development because he didn't compose a full soundtrack.

In Hellfire, Yoko Shimomura finishes developing the Morrowind theme and the other Elemental Boss theme of this game.

Also, her version has three sections so the player never really gets bored of the music.
