Sounds like a suspense soundtrack, but you can work it into whatever you want!

When I get stuck with a piece like this, I try a few things to try and break myself out.

* modulate to a new key (i.e. up half step, down a minor third, etc.)

* modulate to a new mode (i.e. dorian instead of aeolian minor, or phrygian) - this also alters the chords that accompany the melody and can be kind of cool 🙂

* repeat the main idea with a new and more intense bass line

This sounds like a good start, keep working on it and don't give up on it until you've finished it! That's the key to growth - finish it even if you don't necessarily love the way you finish it.

This sounds like accompaniment to something that is not there.

I don't think this sounds suspenseful at all, sorry. The tonality is too predictable and not 'uncomfortable'. You know where everything is going – even the one dissonant note is resolved 'safely'. The tempo is extremely slow.

Regarding it being mystery, the harmonies are still very tonal. Transcribe some Harry Potter and see how the music moves between harmonies (not modulating!) but connecting seemingly disparate chords.

Regarding it being a soundtrack I don't think so either. Write some lyrics and a melody (and a complementing chorus) and you maybe have a dramatic love song but this doesn't have any cinematic sound to it.

I'm not saying anything bad about it – it's good for what it is. But it's like asking if a rabbit is a good race horse. It's not - but it's a damn cute rabbit!

Thank you for sharing!
