Eirik Gisnås
Hi everyone! Just wanted to share a tune I've been working on the last weeks. Tried to make a light and easy theme with elements of something cold or frozen maybe. I know it's very short but I like making these short tunes as a learning tool for improving my orchestration and mixing skills. Any comments?:)
mark styles
Comment - one word - excellent. Great violin line - the woodwinds are the sparrows darting around.. Use of different techniques and flourish is RIGHT ON. Your orchestration, and mixing are quite good. Are you going to leave us hanging at the end like that. The first listening, the ending sounded rough, but on later listens, Yeah, it has merit to it. There is so much music out there now, it's hard to come up with something that doesn't sound like a quote to an earlier work by another composer.. I can hear sense your understanding of earlier composers. Yet, what you have done, it yours, it's not a 'clone' of an older composer. GREAT WORK
Eirik Gisnås
Thank you, Mark! The ending is a bit abrupt, but I kind of like it. I appreciate that you think it sounds like my own work, though I feel like all I do is copying, borrowing and stealing ideas and techniques from older composers 🙂
Quinn
Quite liked the piece. I felt the orchestration was a little dense toward the end and would have had trouble associating it with ice and January. That could be because I HATE winter and the cold (my thermostat switches me into hibernation at < 10 C!) but still liked the basic tune. The sudden ending didn't worry me at all. Sometimes with music like this rocking between tonic and minor subtonic or minor dominant it's better that way. Besides, the work is short and an obvious cadence would have come across a tad trite. Nice work. Edited January 27, 2019 by Quinn typo. Thank heavens for edit buttons.
Eirik Gisnås
Thanks Quinn! Haha, I'm from Norway so I'm pretty used to it 🙂 I'm not quite sure about the title being the best. But that was the feeling a had in the middle of the composition, so that's what the song became to me.
Pax
I liked it! 🙂 I dont know though, just in my view, i think i was expecting more towards the end, before it would end. just my thoughts. I like the quality of the instruments! Really good!! In general i'll say the music is beautiful! Loved the running notes from the flutes! 🙂Keep up the good work!!
