Soft the Snow (a lullaby)

Recommended Posts

Here’s an instrumental lullaby I wrote on my real ukulele but I used a virtual instrument ukulele for the recording. After plopping all the uke notes into the Sonar 8.5 piano roll I then added an arrangement one note at a time. It’s kind of tedious but I enjoy making music that way. It’s finger picking rather than the standard uke strum so transferring the individual notes into the piano roll was pretty straight forward.

Hope you enjoy.

Here’s a Soundcloud link in case the mp3 doesn’t work:

Yes, a very nice song,  I usually think of lullabies as elementary or simple..  This has a fair amount of sophistication..  I LOVED the tempo changes. Chord progression is very good.  Great percussion.  Keeping the strings back is great too.  cause you keep the listener focused.  The arrangement is phenomenal.  As instruments start to stretch out, (get busier) you through in different chords.  E X C E L L E N T..........

I often create parts by writing in the piano roll editor or score editor.  It's tedious, but can come up with really fine results. worth the work.

mark,

Thanks for the kind words. I'm glad you like it. Good to know I didn't overdo the percussion (I hope, anyway). I never know if on other systems some percussive aspect will jump out to the front of the mix. That and the bass. I only know what sounds good on my setup. I just get a headache trying to read up on all the technical stuff for recording. I think you gave me a tip a while back to insert a similar type commercial song into the DAW and just try and match levels. I don't think I did that for this particular piece, but I have indeed tried that on other stuff and it works pretty good. Thanks again.
