Late Winter into Spring

I wrote this little pice these days of quarantine....

Well, this is a lovely somber piece with what I would call "bits of intrigue" added to good effect. You have lines of varying length weaving in and out, something I admire and try to do myself. But there is always the danger, if you would call it that, of jarring dissonances in the longer held notes because of all the moving lines around them. And of course the more lines you have the more probable these dissonances. It's an odd conundrum which could be solved by a/ having less voices or b/ being less adventurous. I don't recommend either! Because the long held notes are beautiful. The opening organ is a good choice, I wonder why it did not make a return at the end?

Ditto what @Ken320 said. I especially love that you chose the organ here! It's vastly underutilized. In this piece, adds a certain amount of groundedness that really anchored the piece, but I was looking forward to its return at the end, too. Not that it really matters... it is your artistic choice as the composer, after all.

Great job, and very resourceful of you to make the best use of your quarantine. 😉

YES! It such a beautiful organism, don't you think?

There is a sound that is very characteristic to you. It took me quite a while to realize it because it's just so subtle, but I think I now get what what it's about. If I had to explain it, I'd say that there is a bit of awkwardness in what you write, but that at the end paints a wider and much more interesting (and often beautiful) picture. I feel like in your other pieces I tried to listen to it in my own terms, but everything works a lot better when you allow it to inflict whatever it has on you.

A beautiful piece - flows nicely, interesting harmony and imaginative orchestration.

Well done. My single comment is about the lack of a pedal line in the organ part. There are moments when a soft 8' or 16' principal / diapason could have underpinned the manuals....but you get the effect anyway.  Altogether nice and easy to listen to.

The pedal line oF the organ was substituted for the tuba.

I didn't want to make it more complex with the pedal organ.
