Quinn Posted June 10, 2020 Share Posted June 10, 2020 (edited) Another little tune inspired by the tropics - a sort of waltz for a cello quartet.....'sort of' in that I threw in an extra beat here and there...well, a kind of bonus I s'pose you could say... a poly-rhythmic waltz*. No references to tropical tunes, just the light-heartedness. *my text book defines poly-rhythm as "the ability to dance a quickstep to a waltz" so there must be something to it. It's like I don't have any idea what's going to happen next, I just know I'm going to like it. There are times when things happen to fall in with 'key' and more traditional harmony and one might as well take advantage of it. It might just do as the backing to a video later on. Cheers! I don't often write in this style - key, tonal, etc so it's nice to learn that it works when it happens. Yes, it'll keep cellists on their toes but a lovely instrument to write for. Yet its little twists and "extra" beats (definitely a "bonus"!) are underpinned by a well-made structure, and a really very good loose tonality. I love those... flavoursome chords! aMC p.s.
