Hey, how is everyone doing? Long time since I posted something here. (Also damn, this is my 200th post on this forum!)

This time I bring you the result of a pretty interesting art trade I did where I had to compose a piece in a medieval style. Here you have the link:

You have a commentary of the piece in the description of the video, and if you have any doubts just leave a comment here. I would appreciate any feedback, I hope you will like it or find it interesting. 🙂 Shares are appreciated too!

If you want the final score here you have the link to my upload to Musescore:

Nice piece - old French. It certainly had a mediaeval sound (Lydian in parts - but I'm not well up in modes so correct me if I'm wrong). Progresses along well and you've kept within a soprano tessitura that would let the emotion through without being too assertive. My only problem was with the closing tierce. The G# seemed a little harsh.  However. if that's what you want, that's all that counts. Hope you get a chance to hear it performed.

Cheers.

Thank you for your reply, I'm glad you liked the piece. I used most of the modes, but some regions of the piece are quite ambiguous so there is room for debate haha.

With the harsh G# I'm guessing you are referring to the last cadence. The reason I used it is because it is a typical cadence of the time which was very common at the end of most pieces, mainly religious works. Basically there is a variant where the leading tones go directly to D and A, but there is an other option where C# goes to B before jumping to D. Because I wanted to use both versions I used one at the middle and the other one at the end.

This is a great piece of music, and very stylistic of the tome with two voices and lute. The counterpoint looks and sounds great as well! This a very beautiful work!

Thank you so much, I'm happy to see you found it pretty.
